What performance difference is there between inverted forks and what comes stock on an S4? I see most larger displacement sport bikes with inverted forks but is there a reason why they have them and not the 600's?

they flex less, which is an issue in turn 2 at Jerez but I'm not convinced there's any reason for them on the street other than the good looks.

i have been told that they flex less fore and aft but they also don't twist as easy. I have ridden CR250's with and without inverted forks and to be honest all the things they help, i never knew needed helping until i rode one :-D I think they are putting them on the bigger cruisers because they have more stability with higher weight. and of course, they do look bad a$$

Inverted forks (shocks, etc...)also work better, because they have less unsprung weight than a conventional fork. I belive the tradeoff is more overall weight, which would slow steering, but I may be wrong about that. Again, would you ever notice the diference on the street???

:kck: I like that one.

The reason you find yourself sitting on your nuts is that they're overly large.

Actually, except the Daytona 650's all, for 05 all the 600's got
inverted forks and radial brakes... I read an article a while back talking about inverted forks and in addition to the reduced unsprung weight, the stiffness is there to battle front-end chatter... something about making the fork and tire vibrate at different frequencies, and canceling each other out.

Plus, inverted forks are newer, so your bike doesn't look dated or cheap. I'm sure it helps sales, but whether a regular rider would notice on the street or not remains to be seen. Since mfgrs source this stuff from Showa, Ohlins, etc, no doubt the ones with better quality internals would also be of the more modern/popular design (USD). So if you want to put top-spec forks on a bike, chances are good it will be an USD design.
