If you are talking about the end can, the answer is yes. If you are talking about the mid pipe and header, the answer is a qualified yes. 2000 spec bikes had no crossover pipe in the header, making them touchier down low but giving them more top end power, all things being equal. In 2001, Triumph started putting crossover pipes in the header, taming the power delivery a bit, but lowering it just a bit, too. In 2002, they did some development on the engine and mapping, and I'm pretty sure the power was then as good or better than a 2000 model year bike. All S4 headers are the same, and as far as I know, they are identical to 2001 and later TT600 headers.

Will: does that mean i could put a 2000 tt600 header on my S4 and get a bit more savagery out of the engine?

I'm not sure what it would do, but my guess is you would not get noticeable extra power but you might get noticeable extra low rpm crankiness. Don't forget - the cams were different in 2000, 2001, and then in 2002 on TT600s, and the cams in an S4 are different again. All these little differences are why they are slightly different bikes with different power delivery and different amounts of power. Overall, the differences are not much and only noticeable if you are evenly matched with somebody riding another bike which is identical except for the cams and exhaust. While I had my 2001, a friend had the 2000 I eventually bought, and with both stock, we did a top speed run, uphill into a wind with backpacks so the speed itself wasn't really an issue, but the speed differential was less than 5mph between the two bikes. On the track, my supposedly less powerful 2001 smoked his 2000, but it had nothing to do with the bike. He's just not a track rider, and although I'm not exactly fast, I was quite a bit faster than he was.

So, if your bike is running well, I wouldn't mess with it, because the chances of getting anything useful out of it are far smaller than the chances of messing it up.

Was just wondering for when it goes, whether it would be worth swapping but i don't really need any extra power... not till the daytona 1000 comes out anyway
