Case of the dissapearing coolant (01 TT600)

I'm at a bit of a loss here....
The coolant in the reservoir seems to disappear somewhat quickly over time.
I will put it just under the full mark and then 1-2 weeks of riding later it will be below the empty mark.

There is no puddles under the bike where ever I park it, so I would think it's not just a straight up leak in the water cooling system.
What could be causing this?

A leaking head gasket comes to mind. Its been a while since I looked at the gasket, but in theory it can leak around the top of the cylinder sleeve. Its a thin ring that does all the work and under pressure let water into the cylinder which instantly turns into steam then out the tailpipe.

That was one possibility that was brought up when discussed with the shop where I bought it.
But the bike doesn't have any white smoke coming out of it as far as I know (I'm usually looking forwards when riding ).

Could it possibly leak out the side of the engine slowly rather then into the combustion chamber?

I have a Speed4 similar issue, though one time I had smoke out of the tailpipe but the dealer looked it over and gave it a clean bill of health. Makes me worry as my warranty is up next month, is there a test that I can have them do to see if there is a small leak in the head gasket?

Did you inspect your coolant res. for cracks? Also, another idea may be to rubber band a bag over the end of the vent tube for the res. See if it is simply overfilling, most likely due to a small bubble in the coolant system. The coolant will only leak out during a ride, I had that happen to me on my Triple.

I'll tell you that after a ride I can smell cooked coolant. But I can't see any anywhere.

If it's leaking coolant into the cylinder, that spark plug will usually be really clean...almost new looking, the porcelain (sp?) will be white.

My 2000 had pinholes in the upper radiator hose connection. It showed no signs of a leak, but I kept getting air in the system no matter how many times I bled/burped it. Then it would puke coolant while riding.

Have some one pressure test the cooling system.

Good luck, these gremlins can make you pull your hair out!
