Digital Speedometer flutuating on and off
Can anyone help me on my 2004 Daytona 600. My speedometer keeps fluctuating on and off. I thought it was the battery and I replaced anyways due to weak starting. It cured the starting problem, but the speedometer does the same thing, blinks on and off. Has anyone had the same problem with their bike. Any advice would help.
Thanks

Are the numbers flickering, or is it the back light? If the numbers are flickering, it is due to too low a voltage, which can be caused by the battery or charging system. If you have installed a new, fully-charged battery, but the numbers are still flashing, I recommend checking the battery voltage, the regulator/rectifier and stator. Take a look at this thread for instructions on checking the charging system: LINK
If the numbers are constant, but the lights are flickering, you may have damaged bulbs. The bulb filament has been known to break but remain in tact enough so that when the motorcycle goes over rough spots in the road, the filament will separate and connect, causing flickering.
I've moved this thread to the SuperSport forum, as more people will be able to help you there with the specific model.

Numbers are flickering
Bomb. The numbers are flickering on and off, not the light. When the voltage drops really low while riding it, the numbers do not show, but the backlighting is still on. I did a voltage test at the battery while bike is running. I get a reading of 12.60v at most then drops to 12.40 as the bike warms up. I tested direct to the stator ohms test as directed from previous posting. I got a reading of .5 ohms in any combination of the pins. With bike started and tested direct to stator, I got 50 to 70 acv from rpm range 2k to 6K. I have not tested the r/r yet, due to the tank still on the bike.

Anything in the 12V range at the battery when running it too low. You should be seeing numbers in the 14.0 - 14.6 +-
What ohms are you getting on each pin of the stator to ground, with the engine off and stator unplugged?

Correction on stator ohm's test
I took the readings wrong on the stator ohms test. stator connectors to ground, I got a reading of 1.5 ohms on each contact point. On the last test I was testing 2 contact points on the connector which I realized was wrong.

You should be seeing maximum resistance on the stator pins to ground, so it sounds like your stator has a short. I'd pull the tank and test the reg/rec, and pull off the stator cover and have a look.
You don't need to drain the oil to pull the cover, but you should place a drain pan under the cover to catch the little oil that is pooled there. The cover will be hard to pull off due to magnetization, but gently rock it from side to side until it comes loose. You can use a pry bar or screwdriver, but be very careful not to bind anything or harm the gasket mounting surfaces of the engine case or stator cover.

How to test the r/r
I've read some on how to test the r/r , but not sure on exactly how to do it. Do you just test for ohms on the r/r or can you do it as well when the bike is running. Can you give me a detailed explanation on how to test the r/r. I know I read it somewhere, but don't quite get the explanation due to a brief test summary. Thank you so far for the stator diagnoses.

R/R ohms test
Ok Bomb. I did what you asked me , I tested the R/R on a ohms test. I got a reading across the redwire from the input side of the R/R to the output pins. I got a reading of .525 ohms and .535 ohms. Would that make the R/R bad for having some sort of reading.
Thanks

Fuel tank removal
I noticed when I pulled off the tank, there are several hoses connected underneath the tank. 3 are connected directly under the tank and the other two hoses connected to the tank are just hanging down, not connected to anything else. Are those two hoses an overflow hose for gasoline. Thanks for all the inputs so far, this site "ROCKS".....

stator fried
I just pulled out the stator 15 minutes ago, and around 4 or 5 burned windings. It was all black in opposed to copper color. Same as posted pictures of other member's stator. Ordering one tomorrow. Thank you bomb for your kind help.
