Speed 4 died yest. Sound like R/R?

Hey all. Riding downtown yest. and my bike started surging/stuttering a bit when i pulled the clutch in coasting to a stop. Stopped shortly after, went to restart, turned on ign, nothing. blank display, no lights, etc. I grabbed a voltmeter from my car, tested batt. ign. off, read 13.2v. When I turned key to ON pos. volt dropped to 0.00. Of course it's stuck under a hotel away from my house and tools, but i checked the wires coming from the RR, they all looked ok( not burnt). I've searched the forum, just hoping for some insight before I can get her home. Thanks, Happy new year!

that sounds like a short to me. If my battery is low, I can usually see the voltage drop as I try to crank it. Your at-rest reading seems high to me as well. Mine usually reads around 12.5 to 12.9 when everything is off. That may not be any indicator though, so take that with a grain of salt.

Look for shorts where the wires flex - around the steering head, for example. You may find a short in the kill switch pod if your bike lives outside. It's unlikely. Also unlikely is a short around the ignition switch (under they key), but it's another place to look. Finding a short is a PITA, but those are the places to look. I say unlikely, only because my feral bike never had any kind of similar problems, but what you are describing is highly unlikely, too. It's happening to you, so something unlikely is going on.

Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon.
