Speed Four - Remap Required
I have a 2006 Triumph Speed Four with an after market Fuel exhaust which has made things quite lumpy through the rev range. There is some surging at the low end and a noticeable flat spot on the lower mid-range.
Would Triumph RAT members recommend a re-map using Power Commander III or Tuneboy? From what I've read Tuneboy seems my prefered option but Dyno centres seem reluctant to go near Tuneboy. I live in the West Midlands, UK and am prepared to travel a reasonable distance. Can anyone recommend a good Tuneboy Dyno Centre who would do a customised map?
I'd prefer not to buy the Tuneboy kit and just fork out for the unlock code and Dyno time but if necessary, I will. Although the Tuneboy UK site appears to have vanished.
Any advice is greatly received.

I'm a little surprised there even was a Tuneboy internet site for the UK specifically. As far as I know, T3, one of our sponsors knows quite a bit about Tuneboy, having used it on racing 675s for some time. I don't know where in the UK they are, though.
I wouldn't necessarily remap right away. First, make sure the throttle bodies are synched and the CO is set. You may find richening up the mix by increasing the fuel idle trim (CO) and making sure the throttle bodies are correctly set up will go a long way toward solving your problems.
The issue with a Dynojet and Tuneboy is pretty straight forward, as I understand it. You can use Tuneboy on PC mode, to emulate a Power Commander, but you have to stop and reload the map after making changes. It makes the process more time consuming. I hope I'm not garbling this up, since I haven't used Tuneboy and a dyno at the same time. Maybe somebody who knows more about it than me can fill in the blanks. The other issue is pure unfamiliarity. They just don't feel like learning something new.

I've not long had my butterflies sync'd and they were all balanced requiring no adjustment. CO was checked last in May. I think a re-map is what is needed. K&N filter and new can has changed the dynamics of things and Dyno time is what is needed me thinks

It could be. Or, if you use Tuneboy, you could increase the fuel idle trim value and see what happens. It might help a whole lot more than you would expect. They are set up to run lean when tuned to spec, and it will make the idle surge and the low end choppy.

Gibbsey,
I've just had my S4 dyno'd (using a PC3 + K&N filter) and thought I'd give you my feedback. While it costs a fair whack, in my opinion it's money well spent!
I was running a dowloaded map from the PC website with a Triumph carbon end can and standard air filter. It was running incredibly rich with an exteremely lurchy throttle at around 3500-4000k. Riding in town and at low speeds was a real pain in the arse.
Now, it feels like a completely different bike. It sounds noticeably more even on start up too. On paper, it's not hugely improved (Max Power 89.11, Max Torque 40.48) but delivery is now perfect; Smooth all the way through the rev range and no more lurching! It's a joy to ride now and should be better on fuel consumption too. Just wish I had done this sooner.

My experience is very similar to Brutilla. Iam running a shorty aftermarket muffler, K & N filter and a PC3. I had the bike dynoed and ended up with virtually identical figures as him. Like his bike things are now smooth throughout the range, in fact I can now pull cleanly from 35mph in 6th (really). While there is no improvement at the top end the bike is vastly more rideable for road use and heaps more fun in the twisty stuff (much easier to be smooth).
For that little bit of extra pep I am using a 15/47 sprocket combination and am so pleased with that I am thinking of going to a 15/49 which might be even more suitable for the area I live in (lots of corners) plus the fact that I am only ten minutes from a superb race track which generally hosts around three track days a month.

I was thinking of changing sprockets on mine too for a bit of extra go. I was looking at Renthal 15Front/48Rear along with a nice new chain.
Do you need to have to have a specific length chain for this set up? 120 links, 110 links? Any recommendations on makes?

interesting to hear your results. Ive foud a tuner near me (well 80 miles away!) that has a tuneboy and willing to do it for 250 quid all in. Seems quite reasonable to me. i do not have a k&n tho just the tor end can

If you can afford it, and are experiencing the jerky throttle response then I say go for it. From what I've heard, not everyone has the same experience of the common 'low speed jerkiness' but my bike was a real pain in the arse after installing the race can.
I don't think a K&N makes much difference on these bikes in terms of performance but are cheaper in the long run just down to their 'reuse-able-ness'.
If you end up getting a Power Commander instead of TuneBoy, PM me: I have the Map on file and don't mind sharing it.
Cheers.
