I don't see how the battery and coolant could have anything to do with each other. Some coolant will flow out when you open the radiator cap, as the overflow tank is located above the radiator and coolant will gravity feed down. However, a quart seems excessive. I suggest making sure the radiator is full and the overflow tank is at the appropriate level when cold; then check the level after you run it hot again and let it cool.

My guess is you have some air in the system. It expanded and pushed a lot of coolant out. You will have to bleed the air out of the system. My method was to put the bike on a center stand, remove the cap, start the bike, and fill the radiator with the motor running. They squeeze the top radiator hose, refilling as the air burps out. There is a more official way using a bleed valve on the water pump, but I never did it any other way than the low tech burp method.

Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon.
