I run my oil at the "full" line. My bikes temperature runs close if not exactly the same as others on this forum.

I generally run mine midway between full & ad...if too high on most bikes, the power can get sapped by "windage" (excess frothing of oil from the crank hitting the surplus oil).

A sight glass would make it much easier to check the oil level.

Just a note:
Unlike my Honda you need to screw the dip stick all the way home to measure the oil, not from where it first seats. That might account for the discrepancy between your and your mechanic's measure.

I really miss the sight glass that my Monster had! A great way to keep tabs on oil health, too.

I understand your concern, however the difference between top & bottom marks is just a few mm's...is it possible that your dipstick is somehow out of spec? Perhaps the dealer could check that for you next time the bike is in for service. Regardless, I don't think this is anything to worry about. Enjoy the bike.

Mine appears to be off too. The factory specifies more than 4 qts which is more than enough and with it filled to the full mark the engine feels sluggish and blows alot of oil into the airbox which dribbles down hoses and wires and down the left side of the engine, so a half quart less seems to work better without blowing so much oil.

Mine is run just above the minimum, which is what the dealer has put in after both services that I've had so far. It concerned me abit to begin with, but I check it regularly and it hasn't moved.
