Thinking about a TT...never owned a Triumph
I found a pretty good deal on a TT600. I am a die hard Ducati Monster lover howeverI have always thought Triumph were just as cool! I sold my last monster and tried to get out of motorcycling. (new baby) I never thought of a TT before, however I love the 675 Daytona, I just want to spend less $. The bikes I have owned in the past are sv 650, tl 1000s Yamah seca II ,ducati Monster 800, ducati monster s2r 1000, and ducati monster 900. The Seca was the only 4cyl I have owned and it was very unimpressive. I do not ride hard, never do burnouts, wheelies etc... I just want something powerful, handels nice, and is unusual...I hate seeing so many "cookie cutter" bikes like the GSXR. Is the TT the right bike to fill my void???????

Is a TT right for you
Hi, Think that the TT600 is a great bike, very under rated to be honest. Doesn't have the acceptability that the main stream bikes have. It will go, outside 3-4000 rpm of course. Get a test ride sorted. Lovely bike and cheap to own.

Pros: Great suspension, some of the best non-inverted forks
Great brakes, will easily do stoppies
Cons: Fuel injection/surging at low rpm issues, get a Tuneboy to fix this
Slightly less HP than the bikes made by the big 4

I have tried to find places to get performance parts however they seem to be non existant! The TT seems to be the red headed stepchild of Triumph also.

What are you looking for in terms of parts? Exhaust cans, sprockets/chains, and a power commander/tune boy are all you need.

Tuneboy website
The bike never got much support from the aftermarket for a couple reasons. It was never widely popular, and it was never raced much. Because it was an eyelash off the performance of a contemporary R6, it didn't develop a reputation as a top shelf 600. It was so close to the others it shouldn't have mattered, but squids who don't know went by what jaded motojournos said, and it wasn't a raging commercial success.
Which makes it a complete sleeper. It is far more comfortable than any other 600 of its day, and it's as reliable as they come. There are quirks, but all bikes have quirks. The injection problems are more from poor setup and tuning than a flaw in the bike.
The good thing about it's lack of popularity is you will probably never see another one on the road, and if you do, it will be like a family reunion. Because they are extremely durable, you shouldn't need parts. If something happens and you have to source parts, all years of TT600 and all years of S4 use the same parts. The only exceptions are bodywork and associated parts which don't exist on an S4 or are different on an S4 (headlights, shift lever, headlight wiring, brackets, etc.)

unless you want to settle for 2 out of 3 you wouldn't like it. it is rare, and handles excelently. But powerful it is not. definitly not compaired to a twin, it has the exact oposit power output. twins have good usable power outpout down low, this bike has nothing there but the hickups. The top end is not much to impress either. you said you prefer a twin and I think if thats what your used to you will be disapointed. the bike is beautiful, it handles and stops very well, but it was always just a bit slow.

I do not ride hard at all, I just like the sensation of power getting up to speed. I can pick up 2000 tt (red / silver) with new tires, wheels, battery, clear tail light, front brake pads, and maybe a TOR exhaust...the owner says the exhaust has no brand and is carbon fiber...it looks to be TOR can....he thought it was stock. He replaced the wheels because he hit a brick!???! and it damaged both wheels/ tires...he has been very honest about everything else. I would ride before I buy to see if it feels like it has any more damage. The engine light is on, however he says the bike rides just like it always has...I would like this fixed. I can probally get the bike for $2000. I do not want to spend afortune on a bike right now, and this seems to be cheap????!!!!

You may be comparing apples and oranges...
You're coming off of a list of fast, powerful, well handling v-twins.
I bought my 00TT 3 years ago after having had 2 of the, errr, slower v-twins...(I still had fun on 'em!).
This is my first inline 4 and first sport bike. The hardest part was getting used to the engine...I was used to something that redlined ~6k rpm. The TT doesn't REALLY wake up 'til ~7k. If you're looking for gobs of grunt leaving a stop light, this ain't it. Once I got used to that, the bike has been a ball to ride. It's mild mannered (although it can be somewhat twitchy) for commuting, but will scrub the crap out of the tires in the twisties...it's a much faster bike than I am a rider, so "not as much hp as the big 4" is irrelevant to me...I've had it up to 137 indicated (on a closed course, naturally ) and it's forgiving of my novice abilities in "spirited" cornering.
Parts are available, but require patience.
I've scanned some prices lately (in Texas) and $2k is cheaper than anything I've seen in the last week or so...
I rode a friends Aprilia Falco and another's Ducati GT 1000. I really want another v-twin (one of the powerful, good handling ones), but I also really like the TT....I'd prefer to have both!
HTH,
Scott
