TT600 - New Battery Fitted, now temp query

Hi,
I just fitted a new battery to my wife's bike ('02 model) after the original died a week ago and today she took it out for the first time since fitting. When she came back after 30 minutes or so she said that the temperature readout was showing 179°C but the bike was definitely running ok and felt normal (to her) in every way. The fans hadn't kicked in at all and when I felt the exhaust about 30 minutes later it was only warm and it normally takes a lot longer than this to cool down to the level I experienced.
Does anyone have an idea as to the cause for this reading because I don't want to take it out again if some damage is possible?
If it helps at all the last time out before the battery died we had to jump start the bike after a 70 mile ride in order to get it home but once running it was fine and the temperature showed a normal reading around 80°C - 90°C.

Any help / pointers wil be gratefully accepted.

Gary

Thanks for that suggestion, it didn't occur to me that it might have changed units.
Question now is how do I change it back if that's true?

Cheers!

I think you hold down the trip reset if I remember right.
