A Few TT600 Questions.

Well we've got our TT on the road now and it is very impressive, though the gearing's a little strange. In my workshop manual it says that we should have 42/15 tooth sprockets but it has a new set of AFAM in 43/14, so it has a lot of acceleration but is revving fairly high on the highway. We've ordered a 16 for the front to see what we think of that. Is this a good idea?

The rear brake pedal is a bit too high, but there seems to be some adjustment possible in the clevis on the threaded shaft. Can we just move the pedal down by shifting the clevis higher up the threaded rod? I looked in my factory manual and there's nothing in there about adjusting the pedal height.

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Mike

Regarding gearing: it should be either 14/42 or 15/45 stock (1:3) 16/43 (1:26785) will be way too tall. A lot of us on here have 15/47 (1:31333)set ups that have more acceleration than stock and a higher top speed. I'd probably leave your sprockets as they are since its just between stock and 15/47 ratio.

Not sure on the rear brake pedal, I'd like to angle mine down a little too but I didn't see a way to adjust it.

I wouls not go with the 16, that seems way to tall. I run 14/44 on the track and I like it. 14/43 should be close to right but that is all personal preference. the brake pedal is adjustable you just losen the lock nut on the threaded rod and adjust from there.

this is just incorect info. 15/47 is going to give you more acceleration(simialr to my 14/44) but less top end. you get one or the other never both.

Believe it or not, you're wrong. I didn't believe it initially either. but ask some of the forum veterans, they'll tell you. I think we're rev limited by I may be wrong.

I think I'll see if I can get the parts order changed - 16 sounds like it will be too drastic a change.

Thanks!

Idling

Is this a normal idle?

The engine was hot, having just got off a 1/2 hour toot on the highway. The bike runs well when you accelerate, it just sounds lumpy on idle.

It is impossible for a gearing change to increase the top end and low end. I have the same set up as you, two up in the rear. There is a reve limiter and that does not change with gearing so shorter gearing with the same revs gives you lower top end. I am a traind motorcycle tec and a expert level road racer and Ive been riding triumphs since the day of TT600.org. what your trying to say is that it gets to top speed faster and has more usable top end. people were saying they thought the bike couldn't pull the stock gearing all the way out so the gearing change was allowing more use of the top end. it does not however make it any faster.

That idling doesn't sound right. Watch your tach, is it surging up and down?

I'll check it tomorrow. Anything above idle is smooth, it's just at the lowest rpm where it seems to do this.

My TT has always idled like that since new.

Only time it idles smooth is on fast idle at cold start-up. Was told its because of the cams and fuel maps in the computer.

I've just learned to deal with it as a quirk of the bike it is a Triumph after all, not a Honda.
