Speed Four starter Kit

So I'm picking up my 2003 speed four on Thursday. I need a starter that includes the following items. Can people tell me what i should get and where:

Sliders: which kinds? what brand?

Locks: disc locks? other locks?

Anything else you can think of that is essential. Bike comes with a cover.

help?

Sliders: Skyking is recommended by most. I have them on my TT600. The mounting bolt did bend and the fairings got scraped up but not as bad as it would have been without them.

No experience with disc locks, I'm not too worried about my bike getting stolen. Our bikes aren't highly desirable by most.

I don't have any anti-theft devices, if a thief wants it a thief will get it. That said, be careful with disc locks, you forget they are on there and you'll have a nice expensive lesson learned

For a starter kit (assuming you have gear) I would add to this to your list:

Since the S4 does not have a helmet lock this works really well. I slip the helmet over the passenger peg and slip the lock through it and over the peg braket. The lock is also long enough to tie a bunch of crap to your bike if you feel the need. Can be had for under $20.

I also picked up this from new enough:

tank bag

$17 and is huge. I use mine as a tail bag to keep it out of the way on a daily commute. Dismount and use it as a sling bag/backpack.

I see you are in NYC...

Where are you parking the bike? I would get something with a BIG chain. A disc lock is going to do nothing on a bike parked in the street. Always cover it and get a lock for the cover. It's not such an issue in the summer, but homeless people like to use covers for warmth in the winter.

As for the loud pipe... The SS men in the NYPD highway patrol are confiscating bikes for the most minor of violations these days and there is a bill they are trying to put through in the city council with a $1000+ fine and confiscation for even PARKING a motorcycle on the street with an aftermarket pipe w/o an EPA stamp on it. They are doing a lot of stuff that is illegal (and getting away with it), but once the bike is impounded anything can happen to it, so it's up to you how of a gamble you want to take. Make sure all your papers are in order (insurance, registration, inspection sticker etc.) before you even think about hitting the road in Mayor Mike's kingdom.
