Exclamation Baffle in or out on aftermarket exhaust.

My Leo Vince exhaust has a removable baffle. I've been searching around our forum as well as others and haven't really found definate answers. Some say it's bad others say it's not. A friend of mine said I'll get carbon build up on my valves. Some say that having no back pressure is bad. I also read an article a while back that back pressure is just a myth lol. Or atleast how necessary it really is. If my bike is running well w/o it should i really worry. I mean why would exhaust companies sell exhausts with removable baffles if it was a horrible thing to remove.

Sound isn't really an issue. I guess in the end I want to know if I should get the bike dyno'd with the baffle in or out.

If you are going to put it on a dyno, do a run with the baffle out and one with the baffle in. Which ever one gives you more power is the way to go. My guess is baffle in unless you have remapped.

Baffle out is bad in the long run. A lot of people run them out because it's louder and it 'feels' faster. The truth is, most people won't keep their bike long enough to witness the damage so they don't care. The decision is yours really.

how bad is it in the long run? I want to keep the bike for as long as I can. It's one of my favorite bikes. In fact I have a serious problem getting rid of any.

As far as I know, it's a fueling and air/fuel ratio issue. If you run the bike with an open can and don't remap or otherwise adjust for the additional air flowing through the system, you will eventually cause some heat, detonation, and lean condition damage. I don't know of any issues with an open can if you have the bike mapped properly. I could be wrong and if so, I sure hope somebody will correct what I just said. Learning something new is good.

When talking about exhaust back-pressure, I think it is impossible to give a definite answer that less back-pressure is bad in the long run. It depends on many variables, some of which Will hit on: air/fuel ratio, cam, compression, etc. Running no baffle does not mean the engine is running with no back pressure, as the exhaust tubing and muffler create some back pressure. Yes, too little back pressure with a specific engine's configuration can cause issues, but these can be found long before damage is caused. If you aren't re-mapping the ECM, I would run the baffle in, as the a/f configuration isn't going to need that much flow at the exhaust.
