Wouldn't this work? lsl alternative risers?

Thinking about going w/some fat mx bars. If you drill 2 holes in your triple tree, seems like you could bolt on a set of bars pretty easily. Under a $100, vs $300 for the lsl set up. I probably missing something though. Any input would be welcome!

It depends on what the underside of the top triple clamp looks like. If you can get a clean mounting surface, it would work. You'd need to be very accurate with aligning both clamps so that the bar is straight.

Note that the bolts in those are intended for rubber mounts on MX bikes.
Consequently they are long and have a long unthreaded shoulder on them, that will protrude quite a bit below the underside of the bottom clamp before you get to thread, requiring a thick spacer or stack of washers under the nut.

Like this (not mine!)

I had some std. M12 socket-cap bolts machined with flats on them, to replicate the shape of the special ProTaper heads.
(you may be able to do this with a file or bench grinder)
Just take the flat down to flush with the shoulder diameter of the shank.

Thank you.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for. Little drilling, couple extra washers/nuts, I'm in business.

I'd go with what DEcosse says personally. Get some shorter Allen bolts and grind/file the flats. You can by the raw steel ones and paint them, or you can get stainless ones. I think that would look much better than having nuts hanging off the bottom due to overly-long bolts.
