Now What? Still Electrical?
'05 D650 -
I've replied to a few threads in regards to complete electrical failure. It was diagnosed as the Alternator and Regulator (supposedly caused by starting from a bad battery - which has been debunked on a couple threads).
Either way, I have successfully replaced the Alternator, Regulator and Battery. Alt and Reg from electrexworld.co.uk (suggested by others on this site) and the battery from a local shop.
I get one hell of turn from the starter, better than ever. Very strong. I get full gauges and all my lights etc. What I don't get is one single sign of it wanting to start.
If the Alt and Reg are plugged into the correct connections, what else could be causing it to not fire now? It did before it died.
Could it have anything to do with the removal/install of the gas tank?
I did replace the oil pressure switch while the bike was inoperative, but been told that should have no relation.
I'll go back through the connections, but they were so easy (other than the actual replacement of the alternator) I can't see what would be causing no start.
Thank you for your help...

Do you hear the fuel pump priming? If not, the electrical connection might be bad.
You may have crossed the fuel lines. This will allow the engine to turn over but not start. Right line off the rail connects to white fuel tank connector, left line off the rail connects to the red fuel tank connector.
If that's not it, make sure the clutch lever position switch is not stuck, and see that the battery leads are good and tight.

Thanks, Bomb. Definitely going to take the tank back off. It's about the only logical solution...somehow not getting fuel.
The fuel pump does it's little "whine" just as it used to.
Electrical connections at the battery are clean and tight, as they seemed to be a bit loose in the past and I've heard of that being an issue.
If memory serves me correctly, there was one electrical connection ("quick release" style), one quick release fuel line, and two drain/vent tubes. The vents were both on the left, and both just ran from the tank, down the side and hung out the bottom. I would think even a pinched vent tube would at least allow a start then eventually die. No?
I don't remeber there being a red and a white, and the only thing that would connect to the "wrong" spot was what I am calling vent tubes. The electrical plug was unique, as was the fuel line.
Thanks for your help.

Oh, my mistake; you have a D650. Later model Daytona 600/650 and S4's have only one fuel fitting at the tank, while earlier bikes have two. :
Nonetheless, make sure the line is clear and has fuel in it. If a vent tubes was kinked, it is possible that the engine would not fire. Keep us posted.

try hitting your starter a few times. I had this problem and tapped mine with a wrench. started right up.

Thank you for your reply. I may be missing something here. The starter works exceptionally well, and really cranks the motor fine. I'm just not getting any combustion.
We all know it only takes three things to make combustion, so either something I did stopped it from sparking, or stopped it from getting fuel. I can't guess which one it is. Hopefully something as easy as the fuel line not being fully connected. Let's pray.

Idiot
: First, I'm elated. My bike is running. If it's charging, I guess only time will tell.
Second, during my re-assembly of the tank after replacing the regulator I did not plug the electrical connection back in.
Fired on first try once connected.
I'm an idiot!
Thank you everyone for trying to teach me motorcylce mechanics.

After having the bike out of commission for any amount of time, having it fire up is always a great feeling. Nice job!
