Too many toys and projects, not enough time. Sadly, now selling my '95 Super III. After putting about $2000 and 100 hours into the bike since last April I suddenly found another bike I love even more: a '96 Kawasaki GpZ 1100 (only 4500 miles and an incredible custom paint job).
Bought the Super III to restore it to it's original glory. Previous (second) owner didn't know what he had, tried to make lots of mods (with the help of Del's Cycle Performance in Indiana) and never really got the bike running properly. Sold it at a big loss and I began the long and expensive task of returning everything to stock. Almost.
I bought the bike set up as a street fighter. The original side panels, front fairing, carbon rear fender, cowl, and some other pieces were lost to history (and this bike really has an interesting history). The second owner added the frame sliders, removed most of the airbox, tried to set the bike up as a wide open throttle monster and viola! Speed Triple Super III!
But I wanted the original. So I bought all the fairings and infills (needed to paint them and have new graphics created), and had Airtech Streaming in CA make a new carbon fender. Then spent countless hours discovering these things don't like to have the carbs messed with (thanks, second owner) and eventually had to completely rebuild the carbs (down to and including the float bowls) and returned the intake to stock (after discovering they had multiple carb setups and had to trace parts via the VIN). Adjusted everything for the Staintune 3-into-1 carbon system (the sound is ... unbelievable) and FINALLY the bike runs as I dreamed it would.
But the whole thing took so long that I got used to the street fighter look. So here it stayed, with the addition of the upper fairing and a slightly taller windscreen.
And then found the GpZ you can see in the background of some photos. It was love all over again (I'd bought one new in '96, put an average of 10k miles per year on it, then wadded it into a pile when I lost control on oily pavement in a canyon road). I haven't ridden the Super III in almost 3 months, and it deserves better. Someone needs to give this a new home.
Advertised locally for more $, but I know listers will understand this bike more, and I'd rather know it goes to someone that can really appreciate it. Here's the details:
- now has all fairings and infills (including original carbon cockpit infills) freshly painted (a few minor dings on the left side panel). Rear fairings are as I found them, with some wear and tear
- carbon fiber rear fender/chain guard (not currently installed) made by Airtech Streamlining of CA (
www.airtech-streamlining.com) to replace original, missing piece
- fender eliminator kit currently installed, but I have an original undertray
- MRA Touring tinted windscreen (1.25" taller than stock)
- front forks completely rebuilt in June '08
- carburetors completely rebuilt (down to and including float bowls), then tuned for the exhaust system in September '08;
- Triumph tail rack (currently installed)
- custom seat and cover (matches paint and look of the bike, and very comfortable)
- Daytona 900/1200 center stand (not currently installed)
- extra rear grab handle (needs paint, not currently installed)
- Pit Bull swingarm stand (very high quality piece)
- Factory service manual and new factory owner's manual and tool kit (very hard to find)
- Stainless steel dress bolt kit (not yet installed)
- Carbon fiber triple clamp cover (not yet installed)
- 2 new oil cooler lines (one installed, one in factory bag) with new banjo bolts
- extra Daytona and Triumph decals
Will need a new rear tire; I just ordered a Michelin Pilot Road II to replace the current Metzler (which is quite low). I will include the tire with purchase of this bike.
*note to serious collectors: I do not have the original, dual (carbon) exhausts, nor do I have the rear seat cowl; bear in mind, the rear carbon fender is not the original carbon piece (but at $325 vs $750 it is a decent replacement)

I'd certainly consider a partial cash and trade deal. Looking for an older, standard style motorcycle for my wife. Her Shadow 500 is too small for her (she's almost 6' tall) and she doesn't like the looks of a cruiser. For her, I want a turn key (needs nothing) bike like a late 80's/early 90's GpZ 550, Yamaha Seca 650, etc. She's a relatively inexperienced rider, so I want to keep the engine size down. I'm very negotiable on this. My priority is to get the Super III to a good home.
I have more, higher quality pictures if you want them. I live in Vermont (05443) and can ride/deliver (sorry, no trailer) bike and all parts/extras within 150 miles of home, if that helps.
