I expect he's right.

They had to switch the twins to FI in Europe last year. By 2010 they'll have to do it here, too, to retain any kind of performance while meeting new emission standards. I suspect one reason they didn't change North American models at the same time might be to keep the retail cost low as possible for another year in the face of the shrinking dollar.

hi guys. i'm new here. i did a quick search and couldn't find a clear answer so i apologize if this is a repost.

i'm considering picking up a black bonnie; however, i'm not sure when the 2008 line ends and the 2009 models hit the floor. could someone educate me or post a link? i'm trying to decide if i should just wait or it is even possible to order a 2008 now.

thanks!

The model year change date for any given model of Triumph can vary widely, depending on demand and production capacity. The 2005 Rocket became available in June of '04, but I seem to recall that the 2005 Speed Triple (though announced in the summer of '04) didn't actually make its way to the States until April of '05.

Triumph usually give dealers a pretty good idea of the timeline at their annual convention. That used to be in September, but this year, it will apparently be about 2-1/2 weeks from now. That's when we'll know more about the new Bonnevilles.

If you decide you want to go ahead and get a 2008 Bonnie black, you may not need to order one. It may still be possible to find a dealer who has one in stock or else on the way from an earlier order.

Some of you may have already seen this but here's a link. Not that I've got much chance of getting to the event.

2009 Triumph Bonneville

If those pictures are real, and I don't think they are, I am going to buy a 2008 Bonnie. The mags destroy the look, and so do the new mufflers (they belong on a Norton).

Smile Media trip!

As a new correspondent forgive my pointed comment guys...but think about it, that is clearly a press trip showcasing the new bonnies with the new blue/white se in the foreground, black standard bonnie in the background. Check out the norman hyde thruxton style pipes, the tacho set-up, the twin paint finish not seen before...come on, this is the real stuff! There is an aussie site with more pics .... clever triumph, appealing to 60s AND 70s retro market. Cant wait to change my 06 caspian blue bonnie for the blue bonnie in the pic - cheers folks, Ian S, Glasgow scotland!

That would explain why the photos aren't exactly "catalog quality". Never really thought about it before, but I'd guess that manufacturers show their bikes to the magazines early so that the celebratory new bike articles can be sent to press and printed just after the announcements come out.

I'd guess that these photos were leaked by someone involved in the press trip. Interesting that everyone seems to be out in the open in an almost urban setting. I suppose it could be early in the morning though.
