Hi,
I've recently ridden both 01 and 02 models. Subjectively, there didn't seem to be much difference. The 01 model sounded much nicer, more of that "triple" sound, possibly due to the smaller airbox. 02 model carries less fuel, and switch gear is more fiddly (everything on left hand control).

I bought a '99 ST new in May 1999. I traded it in in April 2004 for a new ST. My thoughts:-

1999 ST

Bigger fuel tank, much better economy, better gearbox

2004 ST

Smoother engine, a touch more power, build quality poorer.
