Losing My Dealer... Millerbuilt in VA
Hi All,
I am disappointed to say that Triumph has dropped Millerbuilt in Lynchburg, VA from there dealer network. Seems to be a mutual decision. Anyone know where the next closest dealer is? Millerbuilt was one of the oldest, if not the oldest, Hinckley Triumph dealer in the U.S. I hope Triumph USA will find a way to put another dealer in Central VA. Millerbuilt sold a lot of Triumphs down here. We will miss them.

Hello,

I was disappointed to hear this also. I recently moved to the area with my bike requiring my 16K service. I thought i would hold off until after the move to provide local support for millerbuilt. Well, that isn't going to work out very well.

Do you know, is there any word of 'servicing' motorcycles or strictly sales of triumphs? If you run across of any good mechanics in central Virginia - please let me know.

I think i will ride by millerbuilt at some point, just to introduce myself.

thanks.

Your next closest dealer may be Colonial Cycle in Colonial Heights (between Richmond and Petersburg).

Don't bother. You'd be a lot better off learning to do your own repairs. Try a NC dealer.

Didn't mention in my own thread, but Bill's got some nice deals on a few demo bikes, including one rocking Thruxton and a real nice Speed Four.

thanks for the suggestions, i think i will contact winchester motorsports. A pleasant 2hr drive. Although i am competent do the typical oil changes, chains, remove wheels, etc i don't have the knowledge to do valve adjustments. Although i would like to learn, not sure this bike would be a good patient #0 for me.

Has anyone had positive experience with Velocity Vintage in Richmond VA? A local recommended them, but i am not sure if they even deal with triumphs.

Their focus seems to be on vintage restoration, but i see they service many European bikes.

Triumph900,

Thanks for the reminder about Winchester Motor Sports - I've dealt with them in the past (not repairs), and have had a good experience every time. Their reputation has seemed to hold up well over the years.

I know the place VERY well - a very first rate outfit, Eric (the owner) is one hell of a wonderful guy. They were the landlord to the Ducati dealership I worked for the first half of this decade, and I used to hang around there quite often. Have bought and sold a few bikes through there since I left the Ducati shop.

They've got a good shop - not Hinckley Triumph specific, but they've got more than a little experience on them, and I'd certainly trust them more than the Colonial Heights dealership (both personal experience and reports from a lot of Triumph owners who come through the Honda shop where I currently work).

Bill Miller told me that he was suggesting using Velocity as an alternative since he's not going to be doing the work anymore.

Thanks again for the Excellent info on winchester and velocity.

I will try and give them a call next week. I would like to do my valve adjustments before prime riding season (which appears to change daily). This area has the best roads! I use to drive through freeway traffic before hitting quiet back roads like this in under 5 minutes! If any of you will be riding this way, shoot me a private message. All riders around here has been so friendly, but i think i have the only triumph in cville...(the benefit...it will be easy to identify it if it gets stolen).

This is terrible news. I was planning my 24K service with Millerbuilt!
I have had nothing but horrible experiences with Colonial. I was riding the 90+mi to Bill's place since they knew their stuff. They totally went to bat for me on the warranty replacement of my fuel tank.

Velocity is good, but AFAIK, they dont have the capability to do the EFI tuning on the Hinkley bikes. At least that was the last I checked. Per the desk person, since they arent a Triumph dealer, it takes twice as long to get parts as they have to go through a Triumph dealer to obtain them. Good wrenches at Velocity.

What a bummer.

What a Shame
I just learned about this situation down at Millerbuilt when I called Tim to see about some work on the Tiger and it broke my heart. I knew there was trouble between them for a while, but I never thought it would come to this.
This is a tremendous disservice that Triumph has wrought on all of the people that bought bikes and had them service by Bill and Tim down at Millerbuilt. They were a fist class dealer, and remain first class people. As one of the "Original Hundred" dealers that signed on with Triumph when they rose from the ashes it is staggering to me that they would force Bill out of the Triumph business. Shows where the business is going and the kind of loyalty that Triumph has for the people that built them back up to where they now are here in the US.
I always said that I would never ride anything but a Triumph because Bill Miller would never sell anything but Triumphs, and I would never buy a bike from anyone but Bill. I guess I'll be riding the Tiger for a lot longer than I thought! And my next bike will certainly not be a Triumph, as I could never support a company with my $$$s that would do such a thing to a fellow as great as Bill Miller...
