Are Triumph difficult to deal with????
In Sept 07 I ordered a new Triumph Street Triple and was given a delivery date of late Oct/early Nov. On the back of this I sold the old bike in Sept. A couple of weeks after the order was placed I got a call from the dealer to say the delivery would be delayed until Jan/Feb. Chased it again now it is Feb and have been told it will be April or May. I spoke to the factory and basically was told it will be built when they decide to get round to it and as demand is very high I simply have to wait.
As you will appreciate, I am totally p###ed off with the whole experience and am seriously thinking of taking my deposit back and not having anything ever to do with Triumph again. The bike is primarily for my wife and she likes it better then the others she tried however as the new Monster has been launched that might be a suitable alternative. I love the Street Triple as well and dont really want to cancel the order, but my only dealings with Triumph in recent years, since placing the order, has been nothing but arrogance from Triumph. This is certainly no way to treat a new customer and potentially someone who might buy other models from them, I currently have a 1200GS BMW and was thinking of changing it to a new Tiger, but that is not going to happen now !
I would be interested in hearing what the general experience of dealing with Triumph is like, and what the ownership experience is like. I am hoping that my dealings with Triumph so far are the exception rather than the rule, but if this is typical I would rather know now and I can exit any relationship with Triumph before it goes too far.

I bought mine off the showroom floor but if I were you I would get my deposit back and seek satisfaction elsewhere. That's no way to treat a customer.

The individual dealer has a great deal to do with the customer experience. Some are much better than others. I have an excellent local Triumph dealer and they say what they will do and do what they say with minimal miscommunication. Sounds like your dealer may have promised more than he could deliver. I know the new Street Triple is popular and inventory will take time to meet initial demand. Individual dealer relations with the mothership may be the issue. If you are not a happy customer but like the bike ask for your deposit and find another dealership.

Not knowing where you are, it's hard to say for certain what the problem is; but if you are in Europe or North America, it sounds as if it was your dealership who dropped the ball.
Triumph had a priority reservation program in place through the end of September. If you ordered before then, your dealer should have placed you in the reservation queue. You would have received schedule information from the factory, with the caveat that certain colors might be later than the original estimated delivery date. Some slippage has indeed occured, but most people are getting their Street Triples pretty much on schedule.
However, if your dealer ordered the machine as part of his regular order, then (a) that was a very irresponsible thing for him to do, and (b) all bets on delivery dates are off. The reservation program orders come first, and they are intentionally making very few that were not pre-ordered. If your dealer didn't tell you that and/or didn't get you in the priority reservation program in a timely way, there's not much the factory can do about it.
My experience has been that Triumph are not difficult to deal with in general. They are a small company, so there is not a lot of hand-holding or warm and fuzzy moments with their people, but I find them eager to do what's right.

Desi1098, I understand your frustration.
However, it would be wrong to assume that Triumph is synonymous with arrogance. Since this is your first post on Rat.Net you should check around and see what others think.
To answer your question, there have been some models that were delayed at their introduction; and some that were close to their anticipated delivery date.
If you truly want the bike, cool your heels and be patient. If it is more important that your wife enjoys a new bike, see if you can get your deposit back and buy something else.
Product delays were the reason I didn't purchase a Daytona675 when it was a new bike. It was a bit frustrating, but I was too busy that year to worry about it.
Hope things work out for you.

Here is my story dealing with Triumph.
This story is not about the dealer being jerks just Triumph having issues. Our dealer is great to work with and we love our Americas. So, is your complaint with the Dealer or Triumph?
Have you tried calling customer service at Triumph?
They are great bikes and worth waiting for.

Thanks for your comments and views. I am in the UK and have spoken to both the dealer and Triumph UK Sales. The comment regarding priority ordering is interesting as it is the first time I heard of that, but we certainly ordered the bike in September and when given a date of end Oct/ early Nov for delivery when ordering it seemed fairly solid, in fact we were told it might come through a little sooner. It was only when we got to the end of Oct that we were told it would be Jan/Feb and this week I was told May is looking more likely.
When I spoke to Triumph there was the hint that they are having quality issues and that is delaying the production. The dealer has been very helpful and is just a frustrated as me about the service from Triumph however there appears to be very little they can do, and from what I gather from the dealer I am only one of a number of customers they have in the same situation.
My annoyance is more with the attitude of Triumph themselves, basically I will get the bike when they get round to building it and they dont feel under any obligation to give me guarantees of when that might be. I fear the situation when May comes round I will be told it will be ready in July.
In the past 12 months I have bought a BMW 1200 GS, a Ducati 1098, a new Mini Cooper and a Porsche 911. All of these have been delivered within a week of the date given at the time of ordering them. I accept that delays will happen with new models, but 6 months delay from initial delivery date is totally unacceptable and just down right lacking any regard for customer service and care.
If it was just down to me I would take my money back, the deposit which Triumph is currently gaining interest on so clearly there is no incentive for them to deliver the goods at any stage soon, and go elsewhere having nothing to do with Triumph again. However unfortunately my wife has already named the bike so having that emotional attachment we have no option but to sit back and wait...and wait...and wait.
Good to see the bad old days of the British Car Industry is alive and well in a factory in Hinckley.

With one major difference the old British cars where a POS which the Street most def isn't
When we ordered (the street is my wifes) we got told delivery end of aug begining of Sept actual delivery was 14th Sept so not to bad really
I did phone Triumph and was dealt with very courteously but my guess is that they didn't get the volume of calls chasing delivery they are now
Triumph do have a reservation scheme in place I think it may even be to stop dealers shifting bike to prefered customers at the expense of some one who wants to jump the que for a premium or people selling their place in the Q
