Looking for advice

Hey all i have been reading the forums here for a week or two, trying to learn as much as i can. I am looking to buy my first bike and really like the looks of the Thruxtons. Any other first timers get a Thruxton? Any advice or info i should know?

I have yet to go actually look at them and get a feel for them, the closest dealer is over a hour away from where I live, that brings me to my next question... Anyone from Ohio know of any decent dealers in around Columbus or Canton. The dealers i am looking at right now are Hind's Motorsports in Lewis Center, Motohio in downtown Columbus and Hardings Parkway Cycle in Canton. I think i am going to try to get a 2007 or an 08 if no 07's are left, think i would like the 07 color's better.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

G'day!

Well we are biased but you are making an excellent choice!

It may help us give you better advice Shotime if we knew what sort of biking experience you have had and what you think you want from a bike.

The Thruxton is one good looking bike (almost as good looking as my speedmaster) it has that wonderful 1950 British cafe racer look and feel about it (though now made in Thailand). It may not be the best ergonomic set up for very long distance touring but the tuning / after market goodies selection is impressive and with an engine that has been around for some years is very reliable (except some minor but easily sorted niggles)

I am sure you will not be disappointed but test ride one first.

enjoy!

Thruxton Cup

They race Thruxtons at Hinds and have several in stock. They have the Ohio State Colored on on the floor. Talk to Max Hinds he races one. They are leaving for Daytona, shortly.

Smile Looking For Thruxton

The Thruxton is a beautiful bike, but in stock form not a "rocket ship" like other modern cycles with clip-on bars. If you can ride a regular Bonneville (which is easy) you should have no problem with a Thruxton. I have an 06 Scrambler and just bought a leftover 07 Bonneville. I have ridden a friend's Thruxton (With pipes & jets), and it is a nice bike that should not intimidate you.

Personally I recommend looking for an 07. I was waiting to buy an 08 T100 in Claret/Silver when I saw the new "bloated" gas tanks with cheap plastic stick-on badges.

Factors to consider about the U.S. 08 Thruxton:

1) Several other countries get Fuel Injection, we don't. (Personally I prefer carbs, but I don't disagree with someone who wants FI.)
2) Because of FI (in other countries) we also get the "bloated" gas tank designed for the fuel pump needed for FI.
3) Several other countries get flat "bolt-on" handle bars, a more comfortable replacement for the clip-ons, we don't.

The 2007 is a much better looking bike than the 2008, which has NO IMPROVEMENTS in the U.S. market. You will also find a better deal on an 07

Just my opinions, good luck..............Art

Thanks all for the advice and the info.

@Staggerlee: I had a old Vespa moped when i was 14-15 years old, now i am 28 and a friend talked me into getting a bike to ride with him. I have always loved the old Euro race style bikes, Triumphs, Nortons, etc, so i checked out the new triumphs and really dig the styling of the Thruxtons.

@Ahrma120: Thanks for the heads up, sounds like they really know Triumphs there. There were the dealership i was really looking at the most, but also the farthest from where i live, probably almost a 2 hour drive.

@Art-2008: Yeah the biggest deterrent's i saw of the 08's were the cheap stick on tank badges and the colors, though the silver with red stripes is not all bad, was thinking of getting a solid black though. I would rather get a 07 and hope they have some left.

SE Ohio! I went to school at Ohio University. You have some great places to ride in that part of the world.

Great choice with the Thruxton!

P.S. Great avatar! Ash rules!

Excellent Gretsch, I lived in Nelsonville for a couple years when i was in school. It is a beautiful area and some great country roads to cruise on.

Thanks 97sprint, funny thing i looked at the two closest places that offered the classes (both HD dealers) they wanted $300 for the class, then i found a Honda dealer only slightly farther away that does the class for $195.

I will definitely be taking the classes soon, classes dont start till april and the firs two weeks are already booked!
