Trying a New Dealer
Had to take my bike to the dealer for the 12000 mile service. Some may remember the problems I have had with the local Birmingham AL dealer. The 40 day saga of getting the bike fixed. The body work not being put on right, the seat not being put on right. I decide I will make a little 100 mile trip and try the dealer in Decatur AL.
The bike did not run right on the way home. It would try and bog down under steady throttle at highway speed. I get home and start looking at the bike. Thank god I wasn't riding at night. They had unhooked the headlights and forgot to hook them back up. It was simple to put right but if I would have discovered the lights weren't working aty night on the road I'm not sure I would have found the problem in the dark.
I'm still worried about the idle so I wait until I get a chance to pull the tank and have a look. Only one of the tank vent hoses was hooked up and it was hooked up to the wrong valve. It now runs better but the idle is still a little funny because they were trying to tune it with the gas tank air lines screwed up. I guess I will take it back now that it's hooked up right and let them try the tune again.
Score to this point: Triumph Dealers 4 Me 0.
Is it too much to ask to have the bike put back together correctly. Apparently if you live in Alabama it is.

Time to buy a Honda?
Seriously, the only reason I've held onto my Triumphs is because I have a shop within an hours drive that hasn't let me down yet. They aren't a Triumph shop, but an independent, but they do have a Triumph trained tech. If they weren't around, I'd be on some other brand....like Ducati, which is about an hour the other direction from me. At some point you're going to get tired of dealing with the lameness and either look for an independent shop that can do the work, or trade the Triumph for a brand that has a local shop who knows *** they're doing.

Don't get the idea that California is the place to come for a good dealer! We've got some terrible ones down here as well. South Bay isn't only the worst Triumph dealer I've dealt with, they're also the worst motorcycle dealer I've ever dealt with!!!
Kari at California BMW/Triumph runs a tight ship though. If I lived near Frisco, I'd take my bike there...

I have found that the motorcycle mechanic that lives in the house attached to my garage is the most reliable.

If you're up to driving up toward NC, Myers here in Asheville is top notch. It it weren't for them I would probably have had to go with Japan Inc, or Harley. All the guys there are great, and I've heard nothing bad about the service dept. minus the price, but I've heard everyone's that way.

Yes dealers are only as good as their workshop attached to them. We're lucky here with the two local dealers in Auckland.
When this thread has done it's dash on BHO we'll move it to the Dealer Forum as I am sure dealer's look at that forum.

Paul,
Next time ride on down to the coast. D&D in P'cola is really good. It may be a little far but at least you can get some great seafood while you wait!

+1 burmbuster. Give us a holler. We might even toss in a couple of beers (or a good hurricane at Julibee's)

yes they are hopeless
My son 's bike had the hose left off the tank and not only that, the very expensive air filter (BMC -oil/gauze) was taken out and blown out with a high pressure air hose. This is an Italian K&N that actually fits the Triumph and is a quality item. They probably ruined it.
I re-oiled it and put it backin with a mental note for me to ask the dealer to buy us a new one. HA! They also left the bike sit out in the rain for who knows how long and it goes on and on----HELP
