Triumph quality control

How do all of you feel about your Bonnie in terms of quality at initial delivery, if purchased new? Some of you may remember the problems I had when I went to pick up my new bike, only to find it wouldn't run and needed a new tank. The dealer and Triumph were very quick to get me a new one, but now it's back in because at the 2nd attempt to pick up the bike, I failed to notice the headlight lens cracked from top to bottom until I got it home from the dealer. There's also a bounce that feels like a out of round tire or wheel weight problem.

Now don't get me wrong, I love the bike. It's a shame I've only been able to ride it 2 days that I've owned it so far, but I'm looking forward to a long and hopefully trouble free life together once I get past the initial bugs. I just want to hear from others in terms of problems at delivery, and were they resolved to your satisfaction. Also, has anyone else had a bounce that is especially noticeable between 30-50? Almost feels like an idling Harley, how the front wheel seems to bounce straight up and down. Any thoughts???

2 Thumbs up!

I'm going to give Libby's of New Haven CT 2 Thumbs Up! My 2007 Black was modded with the British Customs Basic Performance Package, Nology coil and wires, Iridium plugs, bigger jets, tach and center stand as soon as she was uncrated. They did a 100% perfect job and my bike has only been back there for the first 500 mile service to keep the warranty in place. I now have 2400+ trouble free miles and have done many other cosmetic mods since.

After you replace your headlight lens I suggest you buy the stone guard from Bella Course and take the clips that come with it and thrown them directly into the garbage and grab to large wire ties and wire tie that puppy down to your headlight like I did.

When you want to clean the light snip the ties, windex the lens and tie on 2 new zips!

I think by modern standards its acceptable. However the dealer prep...if dont correctly would find 99% of these problems before you even picked up the bike....

Have the tires balanced first. Even if they are spot on, don't rule out a defective tire.

I purchased my bike used, but recently went thru tire issues with brand new GT501 Dunlops (I like them ... my third set). It felt like the problem was in the front end, so I replaced with new front 501. Problem still there. Eyeballed the rear tire while spinning it on the center stand, and it looked ok, but it ended up being the culprit. It was perfectly balanced, but due to a mfg defect, the rear tire caused a speed-sensitive vibration that was hard to isolate.

I doubt that Triumph road tests each bike through a range of speeds, if at all, so I'd think there is a possibliity your bike could leave the factory with a defective tire.

Probably dealer issues more than the triumph company. Mine had a scratch on the fender that they replaced before i took delivery. The mech who put the new fender on failed to tighten the caliper bolts (yes, you must remove a caliper on the speedy to remove fender due to brake line across fender for dual disc sys) and the caliper fell off the top bolt while riding. So yeah, i believe theres a QC problem, but with the dealers. I don't trust ANY dealer service, bike, car, none ! So when the bike arrives in a box you can imagine what mistakes are made during assembly/prep. I'd be surprised if less than 1/2 aren't in some way compromised during setup. And you gotta figure few employees are gonna go to their boss and tell them "i screwed up" when they know they can just let it go and no one will be the wiser.

+1

Thruxtonian, the dealer sold you bike that wouldn't run???

I picked up my new Bonnie last week, the bike had been cleaned/detailed/polished etc.. not a finger print on it. It had a short road test (dealer told me they have to road test it before handover) in the morning before I picked it up. The dealer and I went thru a check list of stuff to make sure everything was as it should be and signed off on it... Your dealer needs to put a bit more effort in IMO

Same here Laika. I bought mine at South Bay in California. Matt had me take it around for a bit and then went through a complete check list with me. All dealers should do that.

Laika,
That is the way it SHOULD have been done, I agree. But I got a bike that didn't run, then left it for 3 days, came back and picked it up. In the daylight, with the headlight off, I didn't notice the crack from top to bottom but it was obvious when the headlight was on in a dark garage. But mine was FILTY. Looked clean at the dealers, which was my fault for not inspecting it closely. Turns out the tank was clean, and the top half was ok, motor, fenders, etc. Wheels were still coated with cosmoline, etc. And only about 1 gallon of gas in it, to boot.

They took it from me 6 days ago, since I was going out of town they were to add some extras and replace the headlight. Apparently the headlight hasn't come in, so they didn't do anything else either, so now I'm with out my new toy again. But I agree, it may be more of a dealer prep issue than Triumph QC. But it's a shame, because it leaves a bad taste when it happens.

Thats where i bought mine, which goes to show that it's often not the "dealer" as much as certain employees. Most dealers like any business will have questionable employees and some good ones.Thats why i don't trust them. I had some good help from them, and then at other times they've been mediocre to horrible. I wouldn't trust them with anything important tho.

They didn't do anything for me like that when i bought mine either. They just gave me the keys and told me a couple stupid things like "heres the ignition switch" and walked away. not that i care about that in particular, but just demonstrates that as i said you can't go by one experience. And the setup was pathetic. The bike was filthy with cosmoline and as i said the top caliper bolt fell out while riding leaning the caliper bouncing up and down on the bottom bolt.
But theres one reason to go there to buy a bike...best price in so cal period ! There or their other store, LA cycle sports. I don't have them service my bike, so i'll buy my next one from them just for the price and no haggle policy. List price out the door.
