Angry My Dealer Let Me Down

I got up before the crack of dawn and hauled my T100 to the dealer in my little truck, to have a leaky cam cover gasket replaced under warranty. A little over an hour to get there, 2 hours in service, and other hour back home. Loading and unloading the bike by myself isn't my idea of motorcycling either. Now the gasket leaks more now than it did before they jacked with it. Oh yea... and even though the appointment was made 10 days in advance, they let me know after they were done that they didn't have a new gasket in stock and re-used the old one.

I did notice a lot of new faces there today. Apparently that's not a good sign.

Hey Dave,

As you know there is currently no Tri dealer in San Antonio. So you guessed it... Lone Star BMW/Tri.

BUT... to their credit... after many emails Robert has given me his word that it will be fixed right this time. They're ordering a new valve cover (since it's not the first time), and gasket. I also got them to order me a 19-tooth counter sprocket for my Bonnie, which all will be covered by warranty or gratis. They're coming to pick the bike up, and hopefully bring it back as well. Not sure on that because we're still working out the details. But if it means getting my bike back any sooner, I'll go to Austin and ride it home myself. I've been waiting all Summer for some nice October riding.

And BTW, I'm just up the road from you in Seguin.

I was up in Austin a couple of weeks ago and went in there just to look around. I wasn't impressed in the least.

Those gaskets need to be cross torqued in or bad things can happen. Sometimes guys get lucky by short-cutting but usually not.

They have had a lot of turnover. I'm sure Jeremy did the work, I'm also sure he wasn't very happy about not having parts. The folks that have left mostly did for personal reasons. I think had Randy and Josh been there, that wouldn't have happened.

I hope they go all out to make it up to you. They're a great shop with a fantastic reputation. It'd be a shame to see them slip because of new hands in the parts/service group. It really sucks that it happened to you, since getting back and forth is a royal hassle.

Correction: Due to the (also incompetent) contract bike transport service they use, I'll be hauling it back in myself... once again.

I have never felt particularly welcome at Lonestar. I met a fella at the Bonneville salt flats who had a nephew in Austin that worked on Triumphs. I met him for the 1st time today when I took my bike over for the 6000 mile checkup. {2500 miles overdue} He has an independent shop on the south side that looked pretty busy. There was 7 or 8 bikes in the garage in various states of undress. Triumph's, a Ducati, coupla Harleys and a BSA. Now that probably does not help you now , Roaddog, being that this is a dealer issue. But if anyone in central Texas needs a mechanic pm me for a name and number.
