Hi there, I am going to move to NJ from Europe in January and would like to take my '03 Speed Four with. My dealer in Italy has already changed the parts to make it compliant (headlights, taillight, etc...).
However I understand that because the bike was not built to comply with Federal motor vehicle safety standards in the first place , I have to go through a Registered Importer to get it certified anyway.
Worse, I could not find the Speed Four in the NHTSA Vehicle Eligibility List! Hence a RI will have to file a petition for it - which could take a year and be vey expensive.

Shall I give up altogether and leave it behind ?

Thanks in advance to anybody who could help.

They may have been brought in under the TT600 elegibility. They do that occasionally with cars. If the platform of what you want to bring in is the same as a previously certified model they will allow it.

Good luck on this one, sounds like hell.

On a brighter note... welcome to Jersey. Always good to have another Speed Four to ride with.
