just another dealer/Triumph rant - they sold me used parts
So I really can't complain because we are talking about $10 in parts, but I want to complain anyway.
So I had a rear exhaust mount vibrate the bolt out and the remaining parts. At first I was going to look to see if it was just a universal part or if I could make it myself. I could have made it myself for about $10, but I priced at the dealership and to my surprise it was only $10 and "would be here Friday" (4 days). 4 days, no parts and I rode around with wire, coat hangers, and zip ties holding the rear of the exhaust up. These kept breaking or melting or loosening.
3+ weeks later I get a call that the parts are in, RELIEVED I head to the dealer to pickup my parts so I don't have to rig the exhaust to ride. The parts consisted of rubber bushings and then metal inserts so that the bolt would not rip/tear the rubber bushings. Well the rubber was new, but the metal inserts have considerable wear, scratches, and even some rust.
If I would have known it would have taken 3+ weeks to get used parts, I would have taken up the 2 local offers I had "I've got those sitting around my garage, just let me know" or heck even posted a message here. I'm not really sure if this is a dealer, Triumph, me living in USA, parts warehouse, or who's problem.
rant off

KF-
Think it's a dealer problem. Last year I bought an oil filter from a dealer in Salem, MA only to find a mangled crush washer in the box and some oil around the seal. First, last and only time I've used them. All other dealers (GBM) have been great.
I think it was just a lousy dealer..

That's outrageous. I'd get myself a new one somewhere else and mail the used part to someone at Triumph HQ. Did you take any pictures before you installed it?

It is still in sealed baggie with part numbers and etc on the label. The label also has a name of the 3rd party shipper/distributor that the dealer got them from. Its sitting on my dresser at the house.
I'll probably take pictures of it tonight, but honestly its probably not worth persuing. I'll be installing the parts over the weekend.

Please tell me that it was South Bay Triumph in Lomita, CA???
I know their customer service is terrible but I wouldn't put it past them to pull some stunt like that...

Sagaris, I bought my 1996 Adventurer this spring and I just ran into the alternator shaft bolt breakage problem, which is pretty good considering that the bike is 11 years old and had 21k miles on it when I bought it. I read on the Classics fourm that there was a "kit" available with updated parts.
I called Performance Cycles in Shrewsbury and, after going through 2 sales people, I ended speaking with a technician there named Mark. He was very helpful and he had a kit for my 11 year old bike on the shelf! I drove out and picked it up and he took the time to walk me through the replacement process and caution me about some of the problems that I might encounter.
The kit was not covered under any recall or TSB's but it was a few dollars *cheaper* than Bikebandit.com.
Overall, it was an excellent experience and I would definately go back.
Who is GBM and which other dealers have you done business with?

Next time, try Bike Bandit.

I hate to say that, but some things are easier. I always try to give my dealer all the business I can because I want them to do well. But for smaller parts orders, it seems like it takes a long time to meet Triumphs minimum order requirement. I've used them for several wee parts and they do just fine.

Triumph doesn't have a minimum order quantity.
Dealers can order a single screw if they wish.
