01 Triumph Legend
Hi Everyone, I am new to this site and have a question. I have ridden Honda and Kawasaki for a number of years. After taking a few years off, I am looking to ride again. What can you tell me about the Legend? One around for $4000. Thanks and I look forward to your comment. Tim

The Legend was a lower priced variation of the Thunderbird: not quite as much bling. Mechanically,it's basically, the same bike. Smooth runner w/good power for two-up. Sets you apart from the there's-one-on-every-corner v-twin cruisers.

Legend stuff
I have had one for a while. they are 90% compatible with the all the other Hinckley Classics. ie: T'Bird, Adventurer, and TBS. Yes they were the "budget bike" but that just really means minimal chrome. The torque ,HP and relability of the bikes is the same no matter which one you buy. ( but some have a 6th gear) Some TBS owners still believe they have more HP stock but that is a myth.
I have 49,000 miles on mine and it has been pretty reliable. No big $$ problems like coils, which sometime need replacing (about $300) or igniter (much less common).
If you chose to buy one keep in mind the aftermarket is pretty small/nonexistent. So things like sissy bars, windshields, are not easy to come by. Accessories for other metric bikes will fit and the guys on the Hinckley Classics board will know more about that.
Wheels are 17" and the tires need tubes.
If you have any other questions check the Classics board and post there.

I have a '99 Legend and love it. I like the blacked out engine look and it performs like a champ.
I even had a T-Bird owner ask me what the heck it was.

I have an 01 in green and of all the bikes I've ever owned it is my favorite. Almost never see another one, enough power, and handling good enough for me, fun and very easy to ride. Nothing but good from my viewpoint! Check out the Hinkley Classic part of the forums here.

01 Legend TT
Thanks everyone for your input on this bike. I am still looking at purchasing it. The owner does not have the "owners manual " for it and I have a couple questions that I am really embarrassed to ask him. So, asking here seems a little more comfortable. I have looked the engine over very closely and feel stupid, but cannot find where to check the oil or coolant levels. There is a chrome slotted area which I presume is to add oil but thats it. Any help? Thanks

Oil check
With the bike perfectly upright look at the "sight glass" which is located on the right side of the bike, at the bottom of the engine frontward near the sump. The glass is quite small. The oil level should be 1/2 way up the glass

You can find them for less than $4000....

If it is in good shape, you'll have a great bike. Good for all day touring two up and has that great triple engine.
