I just brought my Bonneville in because after only 62 miles, I noticed the fork was leaking. It still has the factory warranty. I live over two hours from Los Angeles. I went to two places to find bikes and the Triumph dealer I bought it from (dealer "A") was about 3 hours away. The dealer that was closer by about a half hour (dealer "B") wanted too much for the bike...so I bought from the guy a little further away. Now that I had to take it in a week after I bought it, I went to dealer B because they are closer. Since I didn't buy it there, they said Triumph covered the forks in the warranty, but I may have to pay the difference it will cost compared to going to dealer A ($80-$100) because "Triumph doesn't always pay out in some cases fully for things like that"...at least that is what they said. Does anyone know if there is any legality issues where I can get out of that since I am geographically closer???

That sounds pretty bogus to me. Why would Triumph pay the dealer you bought it from the full cost of the repair, but not some other dealer? Sounds like Dealer B plans to charge you more for labor than the customary rate. I'd go the extra half hour to Dealer A, myself, because it sounds as if B is just plain greedy when it comes to both sales and service.
You might want to call Customer Service at Triumph America and ask if what the dealer said has any validity, or whether my skeptical theory may be closer to the truth.

Dunno about the legality of it, but would you trust a shop that you had to force into working on your bike?
Dealer B is feeling snuffed (and rightly so) because you shopped them, but bought elsewhere. Excuse them if they don't feel overly enthusiastic to do warranty (read: low margin) work on your bike.
You made your choice. Service it where you bought it. The lesson here is, ya gotta support those who support you.

The easy way out is to service it where you bought it, but you are indeed getting shafted by the other dealer. If you take them to small claims court, you will win. They are feeding you a line of BS.

Today I picked my bike up and brought it to the dealer I bought it from and they said they would do what they could...they are far more helpful...Here is the problem...I have only 63 miles on the bike and the left fork seal is already leaking! The warranty says that is doesn't cover fork seals because they are subject to "wear and tear"...Does this mean I am going to have to pay anyway? That is pretty weak if Triumph can't cover the fork seal and I didn't even get a chance to really use the bike much yet...After riding for the first 10-20 miles the fork was a little wetter than the right side but kept riding since I thought it may just need to be "broken in a bit" but after riding it several more miles I noticed the leak was worse after about 40 miles and kept riding for a few more to make sure it wasn't something with it not being seated properly. I have only ridden on normal paved roads around my base...hope I will not be paying $250 just because someone at Triumph couldn't put a seal on properly....not to mention all the time I wated running around for it.

flick427, if the repair is excluded under warranty, it is easy to understand why dealer B is telling you that you will be responsible for any costs not covered by warranty. he is certainly not screwing you.
anyway, it is hard to believe that Triumph would not do the right thing and cover the repair at such low mileage with a "good will" warranty.

Certain things that are excluded still have to be covered under the magnusson act. You can't, for example, have break pads crumble to dust in 100 miles and not have them covered.
