Ok here is where it stands as of 28 July 2004 ( they are going on the factory 3 week
vacation next week so we will have to revisit in three weeks)
Yes it is established:
You can buy a US SPec Motorcycle via the UK forces Program.
Currently that means you can get it VAT free for the UK Base price
here is the excerpt from the factory rep:
----------------------------------------------------------
" the price for the bikes will be the same as our UK forces personal export scheme, which is the UK RRP excluding VAT, which turns out to be a very attractive price. For the models that you require they are as follows
Rocket III - £9914.01
Bonneville - £3956.60
(( (((I've got a complete list if you want to know but it is the RETAIL price listed in Sterling)))))
purchaser will have to pay the OTR cost to the dealer, usually around £250
At present it is our annual factory shut down (for the next 3 weeks) therefore our manufacturing team are currently out of the office. As we have to take bikes out of the US build plan these need to be scheduled via the manufacturing dept "
------------------------------------------------------------------
You do the math based on todays exchange rate of 1.82 USD = 1 GB pound
I'm thinking they won't sell too many bikes that way, unless the sell them in USD closer to US MSRP
If your serious about a bike, and in the UK or EUROPEAN theater let me know and I'll give you the email address and maybe we can convince them to go lower.
Otherwise, I'll just wait to get mine when I get back to the US..

When I was in Germany, all they dealt with is Harley Davidson. If you go to the official Triumph web site they will tell you the location of dealers in your area. Salesmen are salesmen wherever you go. Shop around and you will find a great deal.

Thanks Marty,
I just found out that BMW sells bikes now via the Program. I now I can get another Harley, just soured on the prices. Bang for the Buck. Yes there are some great dealers here in the UK, all pretty much happy to take my money and help out some, the Exchange rate is a killer right now.

I was talking to a stateside dealer today. It seems they ran a nice military discount while I was deployed. Makes sense - give a discount to those that aren't on the front lines. Doesn't AAFES have something similar to what you're talking about? I seem to remember my parents buying a Volvo thru some BX program while we were at RAF Upper Heyford.

yes it was a We are proud of your Triumph or somethign cheesy, It was an additional 1,000 off any 02 or earlier model I believe, this was last year though But even when I was downrange Harley never took any extra off.
But the funny thing was it only applied to US troops, Not UK or any others, so I wonder if it was a Triumph USA promo to help clear out the leftover stock?
So far Nobody I have called ( short of the factory) including some of the RAT reps know of any programs for Triumph. BUT my $0.02 is that many of the folks over seas would love to have a choice besides just Harley when it comes to US spec. Can't sell through AAFES, Congressional law is the VEH must be US made to sell through AAFES.

I bought the '04 Sprint RS with the $1000 off. The regional sales manager at the DC show told me there is no European delivery available, so shipping to Italy was my job. If you can find an '04 RS in the states, the rebate may still be in effect for Military/Students.
I can tell you how you may be able to ship it to Spain or Italy for $100.
Harley Military sales is no deal IMO. A friend of mine is looking at buying a Sporty, a few other friends have already bought. You get charged an extra $692 to ship to Germany, then another $700 to ship to Italy, plus another $125 for some storage fee. These are in addition to a stateside delivery fee! Even though you save on state sales tax, you end up paying much more for the HD.

I would be interested in buying a new T100 thru an overseas sales program. Anybody have any dealings with the NEX on this? (that would be the Navy Exchange)

when I first started looking I did find a germany dealer that could get US Spec Triumphs
but shipping back to UK was my problem ( he suggested Riding it) and the price was straight MSRP.
I think a enterprising UK dealer could make a lot of money if they could do a US Spec sale.
shoot the bikes are already here, and delivery throughout europe would be cheap.
most military sales programs are Order specific, IE: you place your order for the bike you want.
BMW sales cars and bikes this way, Volvo, Land Rover to name a few.
( I'm hoping desperately a dealer reads this, feel free to contact me for questions!!!)
My wife told me to go get a Rockett III, I'm going to wait till I get in the US because to import it back into England or convert a UK to US spec is too much trouble

I'd call Triumph direct if I were you, one thing to remember when buying a UK spec bike would be that the dipped headlight will light the wrong side of the road in the US, we drive on the left remember, why not take a trip to a dealer in Holland or Belgium? you may find the exchange rate better too? if you went on the tunnel you could do it in a day.

there is more to it than the headlight, When you import a Vehicle( to the US) newer than
25 years old, they check it for everything.
Lights, Tires, brakelines all have to be DOT spec.
Plus headlight must be constant on etc etc.
I've had friends by UK spec bikes and look into taking them back to the states and
it generally wasn't worth the trouble unless they needed the new parts replaced anyway.
Rocket III
US MSRP 15,999 USD Plus TT&L
UK price 11,999 OTR GB ( 1.87 appx exchange rate = 22,438 USD )
I may be able to get it Tax free but still doing all the research.
Its actually cheaper in the US ( appx 9,000 GBS+ TTL) they really stick it to the UK customers,
which is funny cause it had to cost some money to ship to USA.
It is probably cheaper for me to Buy in the USA and pay to ship here.
