I've heard a lot of speculation about the new 675 motor and what it will be used in. Has anyone heard anything about the possibility of a 675 Tiger?
I have an interest in an Adventure Touring Bike, but am a little concerned about the weight of the 955i Tiger for off road use. I fully understand the benefits of a heavier bike on the highway, b-roads and and on fire trails, but what about more remote trails?
It seems that a 675 Tiger would be perfect for what I would like to do...

I don't know the odds, but I would be surprised if Triumph didn't build a Tiger using some version of that motor. I would bet that Triumph will introduce a Speed Triple version of it next fall. The steering geometery would have to be reviesed, but the frame is designed with a welded on headstock, so that would be straight forward to do if Triumph decided to use the same basic frame to build a Tiger version. I bet it would sell well.

When I spoke with the regional Triumph guy escorting the 675, he said that Triumph plans to make both some sort of speed triple and a Tiger based on the 675. He was unsure of the timing but suggested in the next year or two. If they do make both of those, I have some hard thinking ahead of me.

No one can say with any certainty at this point. Projects come and go at Triumph. The 'we'll make one of these because that's something we have the modules to do' factor no longer plays as big a role in their decisions as other marketing factors nowadays. Using the 675 in a naked sportbike and a true adventure bike would both be logical and do-able options, though.
A 675 Tiger would certainly be an interesting machine, and I'd love to have one!

I don't think you have enough bikes yet, John. They have to build one for you.

That way they know there'll be at least one sold. :-)

Don't get it !!!
The Tiger 955 is a perfect all-rounder, for serious stuff KTM etc is the way to go.
Love the 675 but as a Tiger - don't think so

Looks to be a 1050 to me. Swing arm similar to 675.

Even if Triumph do end up with a 675 version of the Tiger, judging by the direction the 1050 is going in, it seems likely it would be more supermoto / Yamaha Fazer than off-road, no?
Triumph seem to have been moving further and further away from any dirt intentions with the current Tiger (and Scrambler) as it is, so would a 675 version be more dirt biased? I doubt it...
...which is a huge shame. A 675 Tiger with a bit more dirt bias would attract a whole new crowd, plus attract those (perhaps few?) Tiger owners like me that realise they don't really need a 1050cc engine for most of their bike riding, spend most of their time under 100mph and just love the reliabality and character (no matter what capacity) of a tripple-Triumph engine but love the riding position and comfort.... plus cheaper insurance...
It would wipe the floor with a Honda Transalp 650 (had one, great bike), Suzuki 650 V-Strom and BMW F650GS in that it would probably take that category a major step forward...
Let's hope it's a reality
Russ
