I personally think that Triumph choosing to not attend this event is a horrible mistake. Almost every manufacture worth their weight at all is at this show. Its a wonderful opportunity to showcase their bikes to tens of thousands of individuals. I understand that it must be an huge cost to them...but with Triumph having increased their sales to new volumes I think it is a strange time to back away. There is no substitue to touching and feeling a motorcycle. It is a lot easier to walk into a Honda, Yamaha, or Suzuki dealer than a Triumph. I was really looking forward to checking out the new models with a sense of pride...looks like that won't be happening.

Triumph Motorcycles has announced that they will not be attending the 2005-2006 Cycle World International Motorcycle Shows. According to company spokesman, Todd Andersen, Triumph feels that the shows are a great opportunity to connect with a good portion of the motorcycle buying public. But, after attending for 10 years in a row, Triumph has decided to take a break this year to free up resources for some new marketing initiatives. “There are a number of exciting new programs we want to try out this year including expanded advertising, promotion and public relations.” said Andersen. “By skipping the shows this year, we’ve freed up a lot of our marketing and sales resources to pursue these new ideas.”
Triumph has increasingly focused on events where new consumers can experience their products first-hand on demonstration rides. Andersen stated: “We’re upped the ante with our demo truck and improved incentives to our dealers to give demo rides. We encourage anyone who’s interested in Triumph’s bikes to visit their local dealer or attend one of our demo events to try a Triumph first-hand”.

Perhaps skipping the show circuit to devote the resources to the very promising Paul Smith marketing angle. :-D

I planned on attending the CWIMS this year, too, and it makes me sad that Triumph will not be there. I personally looked forward to schmoozing the factory reps. However, I'm grateful to Triumph that they are encouraging the dealers to give demo rides. It was my demo ride that convinced me, finally, to buy a 2006 S3. Now, to demo ride a new RocketIII...

The reason Triumph is not attending the US market IMS is because of a dispute with the teamsters. Can't recall where I read this info (maybe in Torque) and don't know any other details.
The plan was for the US shows to have local dealers fill the void with their own booths with last year's and in some cases '06 bikes if they have them.
