I am in the market for my first motorcycle, likely a 2006 T100. My question is whether or not I should expect to pay full sticker price for the bike or if there is room for negotiation? Here in Kansas City, we only have one Triumph dealer.

It depends on the dealer. When the RocketIII was first introduced, I don't think there were that many "deals".

However, price isn't everything.

I paid pretty much full price + $2k in accessories for my first Triumph, but the dealer (now out of business) gave me great service and handled all of my mistakes and blunders.

Then there are other dealers who don't put as much emphasis on what they make on motorcycle sales. Those deals are done in a fashion that encourages you to come back in for accessories, protective gear, apparel, and other things.

Some dealers won't let anything go out the door unless it is profitable, regardless of what other business you may or may not do. There is a good reason for this mentality, but is sometimes viewed as a negative by customers.

The bottom line is that any sale is a negotiation. If the dealer is willing to spend time with you and there is a two-way conversation that involves listening on both sides, you'll usually come away with something that makes you happy.

Hope this helps,

We are lucky in Kansas City that the one dealer we have is top notch. They have been owned by the same owner since the 1960's and have a loyal following. I have purchased a couple of bikes from them. If the model is popular expect to pay sticker. You might be able to negotiate a helmet or service. If the bike has been there for a little bit they are more willing to deal. If you are willing to travel a little, call around to find a deal. But don't hesitate to have them service your bike here. Like most mechanics, a little pricey, but they have experience and do quality work.

There is was dealer in Kentucky or Tennessee that several people on here have gotten killer deals through--anyone know who I am talking about?

I bought a Thruxton about 3 weeks ago and to my surprise, was able to negotiate about $500 off. Even more surprising given the fact that our local dealer sold 12 bikes the weekend that I purchased. Might have something to do with the fact that I also bought accessories at the same time. My philosophy is that there is absolutely no harm in asking. If they react badly to the question, then you probably don't want to do business with them anyway.

According to my dealer, the T100 is the only current Triumph model that will see a price increase in the US for 2006. This may make it harder to get a below-MSRP deal on any remaining 2005 units as well, once word gets around.

Some dealers, if they can't come down much from suggested retail, will at least offer you significant discounts on clothing and accessories at the time you buy the bike. I've visited Engle's and was impressed, but I've not bought a bike there, so I don't know how they like to deal.
