Question Sacramento CA Dealership Closing

So today I called Howard from Performance Cycle in Sacramento to schedule the 500 mile service for my Bonnie. He told me that he can't take in any bikes because he's going out of business and closing shop. My experience dealing with Howard during the purchasing process was very positive. It's unfortunate to see his dealership coming to an end. However, what really made me upset was that he had thrown in the first service as part of the deal for the bike. I'm not really sure what I should do here. Should I try to go in an negotiate something for free?

More importantly, I dread having to ride to Modesto or the Bay Area to have warranty work done on my bike should anything happen. To the other Triumph riders in the Sacramento area, do you guys have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Call Howard back and tell them about the inclusion of first serv. as part of the "deal". Whats the worst that can happen?

It is a bummer for sure

I bought my bike last year down at Hattar in San Rafael. I have had all good experiences there and anytime I call they are super helpful. As was Howard and it is sad to see the shop close up.

Perhaps another dealer in the Sac area will pick up Triumph?

There are a few other dealers not too far away, such as Livermore and Reno. Perhaps we can round up a few others and go for a visit

As for the negotiating price, as much as I would hate to I would probably ask and see what he says. Good luck!

I was really sorry to see him close. I've been dealing with him a few times a year delivering bikes to him and have talked to him quite a bit about getting a Triumph. I even volunteered to ride sweep on the demo day rides in October. I knew he had been struggling since the economy took a dive. The manager of the Midas shop next door told me he is having to file for bankruptcy. He is looking for a buyer, too, so hopefully he'll find someone.

Thanks for everyone's response. I brought my bike to a local shop for the 500mi service. It's not a Triumph dealership but it's a mechanic I've been using for some time on my previous bike. I don't think I'm going to go ask Howard for any freebies or discounts to compensate for the service. He cut me an honest deal on the bike, and I'm just disappointed to see a good dealer closing his shop. Hope I'll get to see him in the future to let him know that I'm loving the Bonnie he sold me.

Group ride to the nearby dealerships sounds great!! I'm curious about Cycle Specialties in Modesto. When I was price shopping for the Bonnie, I had a chance to speak with a salesman of theirs name Rick. Although I didn't buy from him, my experience with speaking with him was very positive.

I bought my '06 Sprint ST from Howard's Performance Cycle back in '06 and had frequented his shop numerous times for regular service. I felt it was inevitable since the shop always seemed so slow everytime I visited.

Today I went to A&S Cycle BMW Ducati to test ride a Ducati Monster. Randy/Owner says they are servicing Triumphs and have put in to be a Triumph dealer. He said they should know in a couple of months. Long live the TRIUMPH !!!

It will be good to see a local Triumph dealership once again. Hoping it goes through.

That's good to know. I figured it would be a multi brand dealer that picked up the franchise. I've been out there looking at BMWs before I decided I wanted a Triumph.

Yea, if he is closing, he is taking a financial hit a whole lot worse than the cost of your service. You are a good man for understanding this.

Triumph's goal should be creating a profitable business opportunity for dealers.

Seems odd that such a large market can't support a Triumph dealer. Maybe the populous is lame.

That would be great if A&S Cycle picks up Triumph. My Although my Bonnie is running great, every now and then I would find a few drops of oil on the gear case. It would be nice to have a dealer nearby if I need a warranty fix.

Yea, the mechanic that serviced my bike was telling me that Howard didn't close shop because he struck gold. On his site, Howard mentioned that he is leaving sales altogether and focusing solely on service work. I feel real bad for him. Hope that he does well wherever he goes.
