I took my '99 Thunderbird to Southern California Triumph in Brea, California because it had some carb problems. While it was there I had them do the "minor service" also. They are 44 miles away from me and there are a few other dealers closer, but I hear they are a good shop so was willing to go the extra distance.

I doubt I will again. My service experience was pretty mediocre.

They did a good job with the carbs. Took a while for a part to come in, but that's not their fault. I have two main complaints. First, BOTH times I was there I had to stand in the service area for 10+ minutes before someone helped me. Not even a "we'll get to you as soon as we can". It was like they were trying very hard to specifically ignore me.

The other thing is they over-filled my coolant. I got back from the 44-mile drive home and my bike was dribbling coolant on my driveway. I thought maybe they didn't tighten a hose well enough, but I checked it out and both the overfill reservoir and the main tank were full to the brim. Hopefully should be okay now that I sucked some out.

So I don't really recommend their service department. I'll probably try this guy next: http://www.adepackett.com/ (though it seems to be a long lead-time for an appointment).

I've been to So Cal Tr a lot (30 miles away) and to adepackett once (10 miles away). My experience at So Cal was similar to yours, but I've found them to be the best of all the dealers that my friends and I have been to. As for adepackett, he's great-very knowledgable and fair. You can pick up a lot of good advice while he's doing the work, and those posters on his walls are fantastic.

I go to SoCal Triumph even though they are about 20 miles away. My closest dealer is OC Triumph, and I'll never even step foot in there again.

SoCal Triumph's service is pretty good, and Rob, their parts guy, is very helpful. I've started doing most of my own maintenance, and I've found their service guys to be helpful when asking clarification questions about the service manuals.

Although it's nice to have someone jump right up to you, and they did make a mistake on the coolant, I think those are pretty minor infractions. Those wouldn't be enough to keep me from going back.
