Middleweight bike?

I'm sure I'm not alone in hankering for a modern, fuel efficient bike in the Triumph classic twin style. I wonder if there's any likelyhood of Triumph introducing a middlweight classic styled bike to the lineup? I guess I'm thinking of a modern version of say, a 500 -650 twin. A modern day Daytona, I suppose, although obviously that moniker is already in use.
I was thinking of one of the new Enfields, but the lack of a service dept within 300+ miles and a certain lack of faith in Indian quality control has me hankering for a smaller triumph twin, that will cruise at 70 and return 60+ mpg.
Anyone think such a bike is at all likely, or am I barking up the wrong tree altogether?

Middleweight bikes are now 900cc.

I'm not sure there is a market for a small displacement bike that isn't considered a beginner bike.

The new Thunderbird was made just to compete in a flooded market. 1600cc is basic nowadays

A modern Daytona is a Daytona 675. I'm not trying to sound like a jerk, it just the way things are. Most of the middlweight bikes in that CC range come with plastic fairings these days (not that thre's anything wrong with that). If you want a lighweight bike in that class, well guess what, Think Bullet Bike. Standard bikes are pretty rare compared to the over-abundance of V-twin cruisers. As for classic appeal, well... yes, I guess you are barking up the wrong tree, sorry.

Try a Triumph Modern Classic, they aren't THAT heavy, and they are pretty user friendly.

Classic lines, old school 500cc performance, not overly heavy (well YMMV), 883 sportster, there you have it.

Afraid it is true - there are almost no decent middleweight bikes at all. I think the thing to do is look for a good 70s bike and ride it. We've had a number of threads how many of us would actually like to see a return of a bike like a 450 twin or so. But they aren't out there. Yamaha needs to bring back the SR500 thumper, IMO.

Yes, the middleweight Triumphs are 675s, and that includes not only the Daytona but its naked standard counterparts, the Street Triple and the Street Triple R. And really, that's the right size for a middleweight these days.

When I hear "middleweight bike" I think Ducati Monster 696.
