Triumph-Mobil Relationship

Well I needed to top of my brake fluid on my bike so I checked to see what fluid I needed in the manual. No surprise it was a Mobil DOT 4 fluid. So stopped at a few shops on my way home from work to find the brake fluid. I was unable to find a shop that carried it. So I went to the local Triumph dealer and was looking at the brake fluid and was shocked not to see it there as well. When the line of customers thinned out of the parts department I asked one of them for help. I found out that the Mobil 1 brake fluid is not sold in the USA and that any quality DOT 4 is fine. They then went out of the way to say to make sure that run Mobil 1 Synthetic oil.

So I guess according to Triumph what kind of brake fluid we use is irrelevant but if we use a different oil we will explode.

Just find it a curiosity I guess and what others think.

Both your title and your assertion "I guess according to Triumph what kind of brake fluid we use is irrelevant but if we use a different oil we will explode" suggest that you posted this more for the sake of stirring things up than becoming informed. Obviously you won't "explode" if you use a different oil--and neither will your bike. And just as obviously, Triumph never said any such thing! Strictly your own words.

Most every vehicle manufacturer standardizes their testing and assembly for fluids from one manufacturer or another. It would be silly to do otherwise. When you've got a production line running, you don't run down to Walmart every morning and grab the first thing you see on the shelf; you buy them in industrial quantities on long-term contracts. The manual recommends those same brands for continuity, but also gives you the specs that will be acceptable if you use some other brand (ie, DOT4 for brake fluid, or the relevant API and JASO standards for oil).

In other words: No... big... deal.

String things up as you put it was not my intention. More of just an open discussion on the topic. Its not like I have an agenda against either of the companies, I am a very happy I bought my Triumph. Even though my post may have been a bit on the comic or sarcastic side but I do find it funny when someone brings up oil when I was asking about brake fluid. In general I don't think I have ever seen such a brand specific recommendation from a manufacture or maybe its just a result of the dealers constant references to it. All of this is just my opinion of course.

I was being cautious of my selection due past instances of seeing some interesting things when lets say combining products from one brand to another.

Diego if you don't think there is anything relevant to a possible discussion then that is up to you.
