Angry Dealer Service Quality

I am not going to mention any names so that this thread will not be ended for liability reasons - but I am worried about the quality of Servicing out there.

I bought my three year old Sprint at the beginning of last month from a large "reputable" non-Triumph dealer. Part of the deal was that the bike would have a full two year service (it had not been serviced at two years) on virtually its third anniversary.

Last week I decided it was time to get down to inspect the rear-brake hydraulic cylinder level - and guess what - it was at the bottom of the minimum line in the reservoir only 4 weeks after it should have been done by the dealer. I know corners get cut, but this is despicable. How many owners actually do get down on the floor with a torch to inspect the rear brake cylinder reservoir within 1 month of a major service? Surely we should be able to trust them at least to fullfil the major safety requirements - even if it is in an awkward place under the seat and you have to remove the side-rails and disconnect the battery to top it up?

When I inspected the water reservoir it was again below the Min - but not too surprising after temperatures in the 30's last month. What was worrying was the filthy brown colour of the plastic surface rendering the water level invisible. I had to do it from the top with a home made dip stick. I topped up with the regulation 50% ethylene glycol mix. I think on reflection I will just drain it all off and start again.

I remember years ago I used to service my own bikes more from enthusiasm and pride of ownership - but now I am getting a little less supple and have less time on my hands I would like to be able to trust someone to do it properly.

If we can get some momentum behind similar stories maybe we can get the dealers to up their game - there are serious amounts of cash as well as safety at stake here!!

Looks like your non-Triumph dealer didn't want to fill his stated obligations of giving you a full 2-year warranty, or his mechanics cut corners. Not all dealers are aware of some tardy work by their own mechanics. It's always best to go back and point out what they have missed, helps you get the service you expected, helps others who might fall foul of the same mechanics and helps the dealer maintain a good reputation.
