Triumph Warrenty Question

I was curious how strict was Triumph on warranty coverage.

Lets say I wanted to do my own oil changes and other work myself instead of at a dealer? I also know a mechanic for other general maintenance needs. Just make sure and keep proper documentation.

Do they require an authorized Triumph mechanic/dealer to perform the work?

Talking to a few guys I know Harley has some outrageous rules on things like that.

Thanks for the info

What country do you live in? Rules are different around the world.

If you are in the USA check out the Magnuson-Moss Warranty act, (15 U.S.C sec. 2301) . It is your guide to voiding the warranty. Do not be fooled by all the bs that the hog dealers spew.

You should be fine to do your own work, as long as you can show that you did it with the proper materials.

I took my bike to the dealer for the 500-mile initial service as an act of good faith, but other than that, I've only taken it back for a couple of minor in-warranty issues and have done my own maintenance, accessories installation, etc.

As mentioned above, in the US, you cannot be legally required to have the dealer do maintenance work in order to keep the warranty in effect, although it's a good idea to show your face occasionally and spend some money to keep good faith.

They cannot legally deny warranty coverage for missed maintenance if you can prove you did the maintenance on time with OE or equivalent materials.

That said, I've seen it done and in reality the burden falls on the consumer to force the dealer to comply with the law which can cost time and money.

If you're doing your own service on the bike while it is under warranty I highly suggest you go down to Staples and pick up a 6$ pack of blank 3-part carbon repair orders. They have spaces for part numbers and quantities, date and mileage (very important!) name and VIN and itemized lines for work done.

Fill one out for every service with all the info and exactly what you did each time. Be specific and staple your parts receipts on when you are done. Keep a copy in a folder in your file cabinet. That way if you have a problem, you can pull out a stack of repair orders that look professional and have every bit of info they would want to see.

Another benefit is that when it comes time to sell the bike you have a complete service history, and people like to see that when they are paying top dollar.
