Has anyone with an 03 or back swapped their spoke rims out to the mag wheels from say an 04 or 05? This is a mod that I'm looking into and was wondering if it could be done?
I doubt it-the brakes, disc and swinging arm are all different on the mag wheels. I know an aftermarket disc is available for the spoked wheel version, but I have to get the expensive Triumph item for my mag wheeled toy
As long as the wheel assemblies are complete (rotors, sprocket assembly, etc), it's a straight swap between the 01-04 spoke Girlies and the 05-06 cast-wheel Girlies. I just finished doing the inverse on my '05 & rebuilt some found spoke wheel's & paired with knobbies to have a quick change available.
It's been a while since I mounted a tube and tire combo, but I got the hang of it again quickly....
EDIT: Sprocket assembly will swap too, between spoke and cast. However the brake rotor bolt pattern differs so you can't swap rotors between cast & spoke wheels. But a complete wheel set from either year is interchangeable.
Rotors are same diameter from factory: 310 front & 285 back covering all model years for the 955i. However, bolt pattern differs on front, so can't be swapped between cast and spoke.
No worries, when I mount my 2nd hand rebuilt spoke wheels to my '05, I'll confirm fitment on the thread before you spend some time and money on a set.
The last unknown is the axle assembly. Although diameter & most the part numbers match and it appears to match the net dimensions by eyeball, I'll post if there is a hang up.
more than ever manufacturers keep things simple-same as much as possible for more profits. models that are the same generally use the same xtras like rotors etc for many years
Just completed this mod, cast wheels complete with brake disc and drive sprocket will bolt straight on. Point to note, use the spacers from the spoke wheel on the rear otherwise alignment is off, on rear brake add some washers between brake caliper and carrier to ensure correct alignment. Front is straight swap. Reason for change... going touring and easier to repair a puncture...
So with all this swapping, is it possible to interchange one of the older style swing arms to a cast wheel model to lower the bike?
