Fuel consumption -air filter

Hi all,
Recently serviced my 04 tiger, have noticed since then that the fuel consumption has become poor.
I fitted a k&n freeflow air filter and was wondering if this could be the problem.
If it was the air filter causing the problems would i need to re tune the bike to sort it out using a tuneboy or similar ?
Tried the 12 min tune but have had no luck.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know but I've never been a fan of K&N - especially when they're a pain to get at as on the Tiger. It seems to me you (I) are likely to over- or under-oil them or at best have an uneven coating.

I much prefer standard paper filters - and in our cool damp climate I don't even see the point in changing them as often as specified. Might be different if you live in the desert.

What all did you do to the bike to complete the servicing? Anything else that may have thrown something off? An over oiled filter will cut air intake substantially and therefore cause poor fueling. I have had great luck with the K&N filter in my '05 Girlie.

I just used the K&n straight out of the box.

Other service things done were :
Re gap plugs
oil
oil filter
fuel fittings (Plastic for metal)
Brake pads etc

I fitted K&N to my Tiger and it's fine-didn't need to retune anything and haven't really noticed any change in consumption

still havent managed to resolve this fuel problem.
seems to be getting worse.
Put in £15 and got out 70 miles ???? 6 miles a day to and from work.

Is this good??

As i mentioned before, does anyone think a tune up would solve the problem?

something certainly seems off. how does it idle? any lack of power? wondering if one of your new spark plugs is faulty. does happen from time to time. adding a new k&n out of the box should not affect your tune at all unless it came over oiled. may be worth taking your tank off again and double checking all of the vacuum hoses that hook up to the throttle bodies.

15 quid is about 2 gallons-35 miles a gallon seems pretty good to me considering all you are doing is short journeys. On the highway with a hot engine I'd be expecting just over 40mpg

Bandicoot, I run my 06 tiger with a k & n air filter and reciently re-oiled filter (1 month ago) still getting good milage per gallon.
210 on approx 18lts.

I travel 15 miles each way commuting, consisting 13 roundabouts plus 2 set of traffic lights in this journey.

Unhappy Fuel consumption -air filter

Hi all,

Spoke to someone in Bevans who claimed that Tigers dont like K&N air filters, it messes with the computer `Brain` and suggested that i re - fit a paper element.

cdubya,

There is no lack of power and it idles fine.
When i fitted the K&N it seemed to be pretty oily, maybe i`ll try some of the comments listed and see what happens.
