Hi all!!!
I wonder if somebody could help me...

I've got a (superb!) Tiger '05 with 8 months and 6000km (3730 miles). All was going well until last week when I noticed that some brown (rusty-like) large spots were starting to apper on the surface of the stock silencer. I know that with time stainless steel tends to become with a yellowish color but that´s not the case.
Has anyone experienced this? Is it "normal"? my dealer told me that He was going to check it with Triumph.

Thanks

Joao

Any stainless will actually stain.
Sometimes stains like this are actua;lly substances like soap will burn on with the exhaust heat and there is no damage to the metal. Try Autosol or another non-abrasive metal polish.

Hi. The stock can on my 05 Tiger was showing signs of rust after only 3500 miles. I took it to my dealer who photographed all the evidence and sent it off to Triumph. Within 10 days I had a complete new system fitted under warranty.

Apparently, Triumph have tweaked the design of the exhaust system to reduce the weight a tad and at the same time had some problems like this. I don't know if its as a result of the redesign or just a bad batch of material maybe but I know of at least one other Tiger rider who has had the same problem and had it swapped by Triumph.

My silencer is gradually getting a bronze tint, from the front back. It is an even colouring and I'm sure it is caused by heat.

If there are spots, and they are not something dribbled onto the silencer, it sound like a fault in the internal construction that is causing specific areas of the can to overheat.

There is another thread somewhere about the pipes turining brown, the silencer colouring is just a milder form due to the cooler gas.

The silencer is quite light compared to the Honda items on my previous bike- which were chromed, not stainless, and very heavy with it. These never turned brown or bronze despite getting very hot quite often.
