The front fork of my 05 Tiger makes a clanking noise when being compressed sharply.
My dealer tells me " They're supposed to do that!"
Anyone got the same noise, and even better: A solution?

That sounds a little bit off the mark to me :???:

If it is clanking, then it is either bottoming out badly or something is amiss.

I had as problem with my first Tiger, i took it back and to cut a long story short.....five visits later and a complete new headstock assembly, new top yoke, forks taken apart and checked....it still went clunk

Until one of the mechanics picked up a stethoscope and started going around the frame listening for where the sound was coming from. He started to work back from the forks themselves and found the culprit. .... an engine mounting bolt not done up to torque. It was allowing the engine to flex in the frame a fraction of a millimetre, causing the 'clank' Checked them all, nipped it back up to torque and it all went away.

Have you had crash bars fitted or touched the engine mounts lately? You never know it just could be that ??

I do have crash bars, but the mounts are tight and torqued. Thing is, it's been like this since new, before crash bars were fitted.
Suppose I'll have a word with the blokes at Hinckley warranty. They were very helpful with idling problems due to low fuel pressure.

My 05 does the same thing. I am not happy with it but the wheel has yet to fall off. The 12k service is due soon so I plan to press the dealer to resolve the problem or explain it. I makes the clunk every time I go over a sharp bump or curb.

My 05 had the same problem At the 10Km service the steering head bearings were tightened & that seems to have stopped the clunk....

According to the boys at Hinckley, they say its the damping cartridge valve that makes the noise and it is supposed to do so.
The one-way damping on BSA forks from the 50's did , too....

I'm happy to see this thread cos mine does the same when the bike hits a hole in the road etc, I've tried the headstock bearings & they seem ok, I was wondering what else it could be, if they all do it then thats ok....ish..

the big question is, should we be worried or not, I can't see how they are supposed to make the noise, how do you engineer in a clunk??
