Shine up your exhaust

Just a quick note to pass along some useful information. It may have already been posted and I do realize there is some overlap in members form site to site, BUT this works soooo great that I must pass it on. I read that toilet bowl cleaner containing hydrochloric acid was a good way to lift the dinge off of our exhausts.Man, is it! Just wipe it on and hose it off. It transformed 3 years of dinge into sparkle in just 15 minutes!

I'll go the safe route. Wait for the first ten to do it and report back, and if it doesn't damage the exhaust I'll have a go

I wonder if it gets rid of that dark staining you get on Tiger exhausts ?

Has anyone got a product name for this magic cleaner(in the UK)?
I tried a wee bit on my pipes with stuff that is in my house(Harpic) but it made no difference.

Andy.

Hydrocloric acid is the one of the main components of "Wonder wheels" alloy wheel cleaner (think it's sold in the UK by a company called Carplan). I used to use this on my 900, and whilst it cleans off any dirt on your rims it tended to leave a white residue, and I came to the conclusion in the end it was too aggressive stuff for the bikewheels. Never tried it on the exhaust, to be 100% honest I'm unlikely to.....

Nothing falling off yet!

It's been a week or so since I took the toilet bowl cleaner to my exhaust and upon close inspection nothing seems amiss. SO, taking a que from TorqueyT, I decided to give it a shot on the aluminum wheels I use on my truck in the winter. Poof! Brake dust, road tar and grime all gone!

When I had a BMW Wonder Wheels cleaned up the barrells a treat. I would not recommend it on the wheels of a Tiger.Like a previous poster when I used it on my 885i with spoke wheels it left a sort of white bloom on the rims. I have not risked it on the 955. I have found that a good wash and polish and then a wipe over with ACF-50.

I used to be a marketing manager at Tetrosyl (Carplan) who sold Wonder Wheels, until I escaped to live in France!!.

It is a great product and a market leader for alloy wheel cleaning. The thing you must ensure, as with a lot of acid-based cleaners is do not use it in direct sunlight or on hot wheels, or any hot surface, as the heat will evaporate the water content making it more concentrated!!

I find one of the best methods of cleaning any surface, wheels, body-work, etc is to use a micro-fibre cloth in conjunction with your favourite car/bike shampoo. These cloths will lift off pretty much every type of dirt, great for splattered on flys, etc. I never use anything else now, sponges for cleaning are a thing of the past.
