Best Practices <'06 Tigers
I have a new-to-me '06 tiger w/1800 miles..

What are the preventative things you would do with a new bike, from your experience you have. The '06 is as refined as it gets by itself, but are there gotchas?

I'll likely add crash bars of some sort, head light protectors of some sort in hopes of not having mechanical issues for those causes. Perhaps a sump guard and radiator grates.. oh yeah and a mud flap for the front.

SO what wire rubs through.. or which bearing wear .. when should I preemptively replace the clutch cable?...

I am in the beginning stages of planning what I guess will be a 20-25 thousand mile trip... somewhere in there will be 3/4 tire changes, the 12/18 and 24k services and plenty of other maint tasks..

thanks for all the ideas ...

Keep an eye on the centre stand/footrest hanger fasteners, they often vibrate loose.

There's plenty of thread on four (two each side) of the fasteners to add a locking nut on the inside.

The other two (one each side) are blind and screw directly into the frame. Be carefull not to strip the threads as the screw diameters are smaller and don't go that far in. I've changed these for a slightly longer item.

I added the Touratech crash guards, haven't tested them yet but they look stout.
You may want a different windscreen.
Mine had a bad fuel gauge sender which I gather is fairly common, the rear brake pads wore very quickly, otherwise it hasn't given any real trouble, but it only has 13k.
If I were going on a long trip I'd probably do something about the seat also.

Mud flaps, front and rear.
SW Motech Barback risers.

My ignition switch came loose, but was tightened easily and locktite added, still solid today.

Keep your chain on the loose side. 60mm on the side stand is better than the manual's specs.
