Question Clutch disk

Hi,

I am a new Triumph owner since March. I have a White Tiger 1050 2008 with 3500 km. I have a problem with with my clutch disk and I'll try to be as clear as I can to ask for your advise/help... :-)

The coupling was not smooth since 500 km... the shifts were herd and the gearbox made some clutching sounds. I went to the dealer who tells me the clutch disk is burnt... Ok seen the symptoms I believe him.
The problem is that he says that this does not fall under the warranty policy of Triumph... but the bike never really reacted well, even after the first 700 miles checkup by the dealer. What should I do ? I didn't do anything wrong and the clutch disk is burnt after only 3500 km... not normal... should be a warranty issue... what do you think ?

Thanks

Fantomas, I'd go to another dealer.

Your clutch is a wet clutch, so burning the plates would be really hard in just 3500 km, unless you spend all your time drag racing.

My bet is that the clutch cable isn't adjusted properly, which will cause rough and noisy shifting. That coupled with the fact that these bikes are notorious for notchy shifts when they are new.

http://www.cyclefish.com/tech_tips/l...utch_cable.asp is not a bad place to get an idea on how to adjust your cable, but better still, get a shop manual to show you exactly how to do it. It's really the first thing to check with hard shifting.

thanx

Once again, thanx for the detailed answer Miker. I'll check with the dealer again to get his final position on that but I also think he didn't set the cable the right way when the bike came out of the factory... I hope he wont say its me or something else to avoid the warranty....

Thanx

Thumbs up Epilogue

The dealer opened the gearbox this morning... verdict: no burnt clutch disk and the warranty runs because its a known problem of "sticking" clutch disk. Apparently I'm the first one in Belgium to have this kinda problem, together with two others in Germany. They will replace it without any extra cost from my side ;-)

The point is that if this happens to you, DO NOT BELIEVE your dealer that says its another problem (tight cable, etc..). Mine (dealer) excused himself not believing me when I said I didn't touch anything.

Feel free to ask for more details if you are unfortunate as I was ;-)

Hope it wasn't Christian Mourin in Ath giving you the run around. I know Christian and always thought he was a straight geeza.

Wink reply

No my Dealer is in Charleroi (Bailleux). Everything Ok now he believes me :-) Until now nothing ELSE to complain from him ! He is cheap compared to Brussels dealers and I had a really good price for the bike.
