Not the clutch cable. Had the guys at Freewheeling Triumph in Douglasville,GA. It's not the clutch. I'm heading up to Triumph of North Georgia for a warranty workup. I'll let you know what the outcome is.

He's talking about your clutch lever. Unlock the larger knurled knobback a turn or two.], then back out the inner adjuster until it gets tight. Then turn it back in to adjust free play. You want the lever to move a few mm before you see the arm on your clutch cover (right side of bike) move. Once you have it close, lock back down the larger knurled knob. RIde and evaluate.

One way to tell if your too loose is that the clutch will reengage just off the grip as you release the clutch lever, if it's too tight it will be almost when the lever is fully forward. Adjust to get it midrange. Just sit in the driveway trying to pull out in first till you get it right.

Not the clutch lever either. Definitely enough play, without being too much.

Trailered the bike to Triumph of North Georgia yesterday. They'll call me Tuesday with an outcome. Should be warranty work. Their mechanics were shocked, with one of them saying, "These bikes never have problems." Guess I'm just the lucky one.

Been calling up to Triumph of North Georgia Daily for updates. They're STILL waiting on a call back from Triumph to determine whether or not it's simply a spring or if they have to open the engine and transmission cases.

Does this sound kosher?

The gearboxes are a pretty simple design, however there isn't much you can do without splitting the cases. When I first read this, I thought to myself it was either the shifter return spring, or a bent selector fork. Either way, it will be covered under warranty, it's just a shame you have to be without it for a while.

The mechanics are right though, very seldom are there major problems, so you must be lucky.

Mick

They're guessing on a 'shifter rod' at this time and are waiting on the part to come in. Should be here Tuesday. If that doesn't fix it, they have to split the cases.

It's a bit frustrating. Bike's been there a week now, will probably be there for another (the shop's over an hour from home, and my job doesn't allow for me to take afternoons off). Having to wait on approvals from Triumph before being able to diagnose smacks of socialised medicine; it's like having a headache and having to wait a week for a doctor to diagnose you with a headache and then waiting another week for the doctor to give you Tylenol.

I love the Tiger, but miss the simplicity of the Bonnie.

I doubt the gearbox of the Bonneville was all that much simpler, you just didn't have any trouble with it.
I could imagine that since they aren't actually sure what the real problem is that they have to get authorization from Triumph, since Triumph is going to be paying the bill.
Mine has been notchy from day one and early on it would occassionally 'bind' on the upshift from 1st to second. Eventually it seemed to work itself out but its still pretty notchy.
I can empathize with your frustration. I once had a certain R1150GS off the road for close to 60 days on a warranty claim. I believe that one was largely due to the dealership although they tried to lay off a lot of it on BMW needing authorization for this or that. What was even more frustrating in that case was that they ended up being wrong, the issue wasn't fixed and I ended up at another dealership before it ultimately got taken care of.
With any luck at all you can get some satisfaction on this and get to actually enjoying the Tiger.

Awesome news! I'll look forward to 'the rest of the story'. Presumably, it wasn't too bad since its only been a few days.
