Low fuel light won't go out

OK, I've had this problem a while now, maybe a year !

Initial problem was fuel gauge stopped working but light stayed on. Local mechanic rewired a connector and the guage got going again but permanently read high, low fuel light stayed on.

Dealer suggested ECU corrosion, but have been unable to check that by swapping the ECU out. Instead bought a used fuel float which is now in.

Fuel gauge now goes up and down as the bike points up and down hill, which should be good news, but still to run it low to see how accurate it's reading.

BUT

the low fuel light remains on......

Any suggestions ?

The weird thing is, every now and then it goes off and stays off for minutes at a time. Could it be as simple as a dodgy connector somewhere ?

maybe corrosion, cracked wiring, etc.

Fife, you should be able to pull the plastic side covers, seat and tank fairly easily. From there, it should be just one of the wires into the fuel pump area in the tank.

Not quite, the fuel gauge is ion the RHS and the pump on the left....

I would have suggested changing the sender unit as I had a very similar problem on my 04 and that sorted it, but I see you've done that. The light and gauge are both driven by the sender so I would start to suspect a problem with the ECU, which converts the resistance seen at the sender into the appropriate signals for both the gauge and light.

that was the dealers first suggestion - the most expensive one !

Thought I'd try the sender first, if the gauge is now near enough accurate I'll live with the light staying on.

It's been on so long I dismissed the ecu theory on the basis it would manifest itself in progressively worse ways, but it hasn't.

36k service due soon, will ask them to have a fiddle then, stick the off road tune in, replace a seal that's leaking oil and then see how much money I have left.

I'd hate to spend £100 on a used ECU and find the bl**dy light still on !! :-)

Bulb is live and the ECU switches to earth.

have a look at the green- green black wire going to the ECU

if this wire is grounded the light lites
