check engine light

got a 2004 tiger and i have a check engine light on. i think it came on because i started it and let it run in a confined area to charge the battery for 10 mins or so. the carbon fumes were pretty bad. i am sure that i tripped the light due to that. anyone know how i can reset it with out a lot of cost and ordering a reader for the computer.?????

The standard answer is to run the bike till the fan cuts in.Let it run until it stops and then switch off.Do this four times and the light shouldn go out.The other answer is to take it to your dealer and have them connect you up to their computer. This will tell you why the light came on,and allow them to turn it off.

Airsurf, it's not the carbon that would have tripped the light, more likely the flat battery.

I've had mine come on a few times, but don't worry about the three times starting sequence. I just check my oil and coolant is correct, and that the bike feels right when it's running and then ride it normally. If the light fails to go out after the third time you start it, then take it to the dealer to check the error codes. You'll find that they shouldn't charge you to hook up the gameboy, unless they're gougers. It will tell you what the fault code was.

Saw this thread and me having the same problem with the same circumstance on my daytona the responses are very helpful to me. The tona wouldn't start in the cold this morning, so probably ran the battery rather flat and now have the check engine light on. So I will follow the advice here since the tiger and tona are similar, thanks again.
