tiger misfire/idle problem
Hi help needed to sort a Tiger 1999/2000 885cc
Its been in my garage since last year because I can’t sort a misfire/idle problem,
When started the engine chases and stalls, if I can get it out on the road, it will over-rev without me touching it.
So far I have change the stepper motor and temp sensor (coolant)
and re-maped the ECU with tune boy, but no change,
a error code is showing “P0463 fuel level sensor input above acceptable max voltage (shorted high)”
does anybody know what this is and if sorted will it sort the bike?
Please make any answers in small words as I’m not the bright!

thanks

The fuel level sensor shouldn't cause a problem - you'll probably find either the float has sunk or the wires are trapped somewhere.

It sounds as if you may have an air leak somewhere on the inlet side. Unlike a carbed bike, this won't make it run weak (well it will a bit) but the ECU will detect the higher speed and feed it more fuel. This is essentially how the IACV works - by bleeding air on the downstream side of the throttle bodies.

As you have a tuneboy it would also be worth resetting the throttle position sensor.

Just a wee thought, do you think you might have got a bad batch of fuel?
It's happened to me just recently, where I got water in the system from a poorly maintained petrol station. After a few tanks it's sorted itself out, but in your case you may have to drain your tank, clean it, check the routing of the hoses and that all the air and fuel lines are correct.

To clean out the fuel system if there's any water, add a pint of Metholated Spirits to the fuel. It mixes with petrol and water, so will help disperse any residual water.

You perhaps should go back to a stock tune too, and even replace the fuel level sensor, you never know.

Good luck!
Mick

This might be a bit off topic but if your tank vent is blocked it can cause a vacum which results in weird running worth a look

Revs increase when pulling clutch in for changing gear
I don't know if this is the same problem. My 99 tiger would increase the revs during gear changes. This created very rough gear changes. I have a scott oiler fitted and the exhaust baffle removed, replaced with a straight thru pipe.
After changing everything back and trying it, I had no luck, The bike shop then checked it out and found that one of the butterflys was sticking open.
ight not help, but it is some more information added to the pile. Cheers

Prior to changing the gaskets did you try spraying some flammable stuff around the throttle body/intake area?

If the revs changed when you did that it definitely points to an air leak. Have you tried again since replacing the gasket? Easystart is useful stuff for this.
