Metal fuel line coupling

Team Triumph in Wisconsin 877-896-6910 is a source for a metal fuel line coupling to replace the plastic ones prone to breaking.

Price is $75

Mine cracked on my ride home from work and I did not notice it till 1 AM when I woke up smelling Gasoline fumes. There was a 10 inch pool of fuel on garage floor and the fumes were heavy. My furnace is in the garage; scares me to think what would have happened had it fired off.

Triumph recall coverage

Hey Dobrodog,

Triumph replaced the cheap plastic connectors on my 02 Tiger with metal units under a recall notice. Call your local dealer and ask them to replace yours!!!

Even though I was the original owner, I don't think it really matters. They should make good!

Later....

Thanks

I looked into the recall and it covers only the male plastic ends that fit on the fuel lines. The plastic female fitting that screws into the fuel tank are not covered by the recall. If your dealer replaced those with metal he did it on his own.

I'll have to take a close look at the tank connections. Seems petty if Triumph only changes one half of a bad connection. It was changed back in 2004, so you may be right.

I just went through the same thing. My male connectors were already replaced, so I ordered the female connectors from Team Triumph and replaced them. I think one of them already had a crack, because it broke off while removing it.

Put the new fuel line disconnects on yesterday. Work great. Couple things to keep in mind if you are making this change.

1) The kit from team Triumph come pre-wrapped with teflon tape, I had trouble getting the tape to seal. I used threading compound used by plummers when making connections with cast iron pipe. (The leaks showed up after I put the tank back on and pressuried the fuel system)

2) Team Triumph supples a new hose clamp for the larger of the two fuel lines but expects you to use the exisitng hose clamps for the smaller one. You will need to pick up a hose clamp for the longer skinnier fuel line

My skills as a mechanic are weak, I can disassemble things real well...it is the re-assembling that part that stretches my skills to the limit. I did not have any problems with this change. Since I was in the area I pulled the Fuel Injectors out and clean them. Primmed the fuel system about 10 times and she started right up.
